"Clyde Phillips has created a beautiful culture for us" Dempsey remarked.
Former Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey is thrilled to be working on his latest television project. The popular actor, who joined the cast of Dexter: Original Sin in June, will portray Miami Metro Homicide Captain Aaron Spencer.
In a recent interview with People.com, Dempsey shared his excitement for the highly anticipated series and discussed collaborating with co-stars Christian Slater and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Slater plays his friend and colleague Harry Morgan, the CSI chief at Miami Metro Homicide, while Gellar stars as Dexter’s new boss during a forensics internship.
"It's going great. I've had a great time working on it. The culture within the filming itself has been one of great celebration, joy, and fun," Dempsey said. Reflecting on the recent actors' and writers' strike, he continued, "I think coming out of the 2023 strike, we're all truly grateful to be working again. The industry hasn’t fully returned to where it was, so I'm just really grateful to have a job, and I'm really enjoying it. After more than 30 years in the business, we really appreciate it and look at it differently now."
Dempsey also had high praise for Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips, who has helmed Dexter, Dexter: New Blood, and now Dexter: Original Sin. “It’s an ensemble, so we all have days where we’re carrying the workload, and then we have time off to balance our lives. It's a wonderful, really safe, creative environment, and Clyde Phillips, our creator, has created a beautiful culture for us to work in that's really collaborative.”
The upcoming prequel, set in 1991, stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter Morgan and follows his transformation from student to avenging serial killer. During the Dexter: Original Sin panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, it was revealed that casting Dempsey, Slater, and Gellar was an intentional choice by network executives to capture the ’90s essence of the show’s setting.
With just 45 days left until the series premiere, stay tuned for more updates!
