Vogel specialized in the treatment of psychopaths, and helped Harry create 'The Code'.
In the eighth and final season, the series introduced a new character during its premiere: Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a neuropsychiatrist specializing in psychopaths. As a guest consultant for Miami Metro PD, Dr. Vogel (played by Charlotte Rampling) assists the homicide department in solving the mystery of a new serial killer known as "The Brain Surgeon."
Up until this point, in all of the Miami Metro scenes or Dexter and Harry flashbacks, Vogel’s name had never been mentioned. In the final season, Dexter watches an old tape of Harry discussing him at ten years old. In the video, an emotional Harry recounts how young Dexter was captivated by a crime scene and even took a piece of bloody glass as his first trophy. After the tape ends, Evelyn reveals to Dexter that Harry had been working under her guidance. She explains that the idea for Harry's Code was hers, though Harry shaped the details due to his law enforcement experience. Evelyn then proudly refers to herself as Dexter's "spiritual mother."
With Dexter: Original Sin set to debut in less than three months, there has been no mention of casting an actress to portray a younger version of Evelyn Vogel—and according to early spring leaks, it appears there won’t be one.
As you may already know, the upcoming prequel series will feature numerous flashback scenes from Harry's perspective. This suggests we might not know Dexter's past as well as we think, given that the original series’ flashbacks were from Dexter's point of view.
It's also worth noting that during the time Evelyn Vogel was introduced, Scott Buck was the showrunner of Dexter, as Clyde Phillips, now in charge of Dexter: Original Sin, had left the series after Season 4. Could this indicate that Phillips may retcon Evelyn Vogel’s character in the franchise?
