Michael C. Hall Admits That the Mental Weight of Playing a Serial Killer Took Its Toll on Him

via Purple Revolver: Michael C. Hall recently admitted that by the end the mental weight of playing a serial killer took its toll on him.

Hall played Dexter the onscreen psychopath for seven years. During this time the actor had a troubled private life suffering through cancer, falling in love, marrying actress Jennifer Carpenter who played Deb on the show and then divorcing three years later.

Hall also played a pivotal role in convincing revered actors John Lithgow and Charlotte Rampling to join the show.

The actor claims his mental process of inhabiting the mind of a serial killer for six months a year took its strain on him by the final season.

"All of a sudden, it was driving me crazy that I was playing these scenes. It was like I was allowing myself to feel the full weight of what I'd been simulating because it was almost over."

The actor admits he doesn't know what to expect after Dexter, but he has had the opportunity to cleanse his experiences as a serial killer with an independent Jim Mickle film called Cold In July.

The film is about a small-town Texan who kills a burglar in self-defence and is left to deal with the consequences. Michael has admitted to using the film as “a way to visit murder from a more everyday perspective.”

Julie Benz Talks About the Dexter Scene That Made Her Cry, Describes Kissing Michael C. Hall

Yahoo's 'Daily Shot' sits down with Julie Benz to discuss her favorite scene on Dexter, Buffy and more: "My favorite scene on the show is when Dexter proposes to Rita," Julie says. "As soon as we started to rehearse and Michael started saying his dialogue, it was that magic moment that all actors hope for, and tears started flowing. That was that synergy moment when your character and yourself meld together."

"The role that I really loved was Robin on 'Desperate Housewives,'" Julie says of the role she took on right after Dexter. She was thrilled to work with the women she had "admired for so long" and loved the eccentric role she had a chance to play. "My character was very quirky and fun," Julie says. "She was a stripper… a lesbian stripper."

Julie also revealed how she and her "Dexter" co-stars coped with producing such a heavy show. "There's a lot of joking around. There's a lot of laughter and levity," she says. "It was a very dark show to shoot."

When she was asked to describe kissing Michael C. Hall, she answers: "Dreamy. He has very good breath". You can watch the interview here.

Dexter Comic Book Series by Marvel: The Cover of Issue #5 and Review

via Flickering Myth: "CONTINUING THE ALL-NEW DEXTER ADVENTURE, WRITTEN BY HIS CREATOR JEFF LINDSAY!

• Dexter Morgan isn't just Miami's #1 forensic blood splatter expert, he's also a serial killer who targets other serial killers!
• Has Dexter met his match and did he help create him? • The bodies are piling up—and Dexter might be next!"

The first Dexter comic story arc comes to a conclusion, and I have to say it was well worth the slow start, to the thrilling finale.

With the arch villain Steve Gonzalez finally found out, Dexter and his dark passenger were set up perfectly for their showdown. Jeff Lindsay throws a few wrenches into the works though, making the story feel somewhat more realistic, and definitely prolonging the ultimate confrontation.

The artwork works perfectly, as we transition from the under belly of Miami to across the world to South America, and Dalibor Talajic does an exceptional job filling in the details.

To any Dexter fan feeling the withdrawal from the conclusion of the television series, I strongly recommend giving this story a read. If you’ve been following from issue #1, then I can say with some confidence you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well the ends are tied up here.

Finally the cover; understated, but looking incredibly familiar, Michael Del Mundo does a great job capturing Dexter’s essence (minus the eyes), it has a familiar look, especially the smile.

This book delivered in spades, and I will definitely be on board when the next storyline comes up in February of 2014 – “Dexter Down Under”.

POLL: Which Was Your Favorite Third Episode of a Season?

What's your favorite third episode from all eight seasons of Dexter? Vote below!

Season 1 Episode 3: Dexter's on the trail of a recently released murderer who plans to kill again when he's sidetracked by the Ice Truck Killer's latest crime - a cut-up hooker found in a hockey ice rink.

Season 2 Episode 3: Dexter sets his sights on a new victim: a murderer, so repulsive, it seems only fitting that he's a used-car salesman. Dexter almost admires the man, though, for his smooth-talking charm and effortless lying, which Dexter knows he lacks himself these days. Dexter's been unable to lie to Rita about his midnight activities, which has her thinking that he's a drug addict. She's threatened to leave him if he doesn't commit to a 12-step program to deal with his supposed addiction. While in this recovery, though, Dexter meets a sexy, mysterious woman named Lila.

Season 3 Episode 3: After Dexter meets a pedophile at the grocery store, who's set his sights on Astor, he has to make a decision about his code. Miguel and Dexter both know the new body that showed up skinned wasn't Freebo's doing, and need to find a way to convince the Homicide Squad. Dexter is still wrestling with his potential role in the baby's life.

Season 4 Episode 3: Dexter's neighborhood gets vandalized. The Trinity Killer strikes again, Debra questions her relationship with Anton as she spends more time with Lundy, and LaGuerta and Batista's relationship gets complicated.

Season 5 Episode 3: Dexter tries to hire a nanny for Harrison so that he can continue his "extracurricular activities." Meanwhile, Debra is paired with a rookie detective on a double homicide and Quinn starts to piece similarities together between Dexter and his alias, Kyle Butler, a suspect in the ongoing Trinity Killer investigation.

Season 6 Episode 3: Dexter is confronted with a sobering glimpse of his own potential future when a serial killer from his past makes a startling reappearance; Debra is uncomfortable in her new job; Travis struggles to keep his mentor happy, as he and Gellar prepare a new twisted tableau, ensuring Debra's next task will be a daunting one.

Season 7 Episode 3: Dexter tries to bring Debra on board with his new target. While the Ukrainian mob seeks revenge for the killing of one of their own, Quinn grows close to a dancer at their strip club. LaGuerta, convinced the Bay Harbor Butcher is still out there, attempts to enlist Batista to help her re-open the case.

Season 8 Episode 3: Dexter continues his manhunt for the Brain Surgeon. Dr. Vogel tries to prove to Dexter that he's perfect as a psychopath. Debra's PTSD kicks in and she makes a desperate plea.

Michael C. Hall Talks 'Kill Your Darlings': "It Was Nice to Play Someone Who Actually Existed"

via Moviefone: Whether you know Michael C. Hall from Dexter or Six Feet Under, the result is the same: you know he's a terrific actor, one of those guys with the unique ability to bring in the audience, no matter what the subject matter.

It's always great when Hall ventures into movies, because he manages to bring that small-screen gravitas to a bigger forum. In "Kill Your Darlings," Hall plays real-life character David Kammerer, an oft-overlooked historical figure who played a prominent part in the formation of the Beat poet group -- among them, the famous writers Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston), Allen Ginsberg (Daniel Radcliffe) and William Burroughs (Ben Foster).

Moviefone Canada caught up with Hall at the Toronto Film Festival, where the film was screening. He spoke about the Beat poets, his co-stars, and if it was difficult to play a real-life character.

Moviefone: How familiar were you with the Beat Generation before you started shooting this film?
Michael C. Hall: I was actually pretty familiar. I was aware of this particular story too, and I was amazed to me that it had never been told. It's a bit of a footnote, despite the fact that it was such a catalyst for fundamental change in all these guys' lives in that time. Of course, this was all before they became icons. It was a buried, dark secret for them all, and something that -- explicitly or not -- motivated their creative output.

I understand that you met Allen Ginsberg once?
Yeah, I did! In the '90s, I spent time in his apartment on 12th Street in the East Village. He had his harmonium, his meticulously organized library, cassette tapes of Kerouac reading, and yeah, it was amazing. Anyway, I was familiar with the Beats, their work, their lives, the characters. I was so excited when I saw the script. Read the rest after the jump!
