Latest From Ask Ausiello - Dexter Season 7 Scoop

Latest from Michael Ausiello - TVLine.com. Click the link below to read the latest scoop about Dexter Season 7...

Question: I know everyone’s talking about Deb walking in on Dex in the Dexter finale, but I want to know about the creepy intern. What’s the deal with him sending Dex the arm of his dead brother? —Steve
Ausiello: The deal is… you’ll have to wait until Season 7 to find out. Asked why he left the Louis (Josh Cooke) thread dangling in the finale, exec producer Scott Buck told me, “I think what we’re doing with Louis is setting him up for things to come.”

  1. i knew it.. i think the video game guy wants to be dexter's robin.. side kick guy.. he has the techno skills that dexter needs. but could he be a serial killer wannabe himself? remember what happens whever dex takes a sidekick? only lumen was able to escape unscathed... and i still think lumen could show up with dexter's child in tow... that would be a great plot intersection. amazingdrx

  2. does that explain the lack of any romantic element to this season? i think so.. the lumen factor has not been discarded yet? amazingdrx

  3. My hope is that Louis' painting on the hand somehow involved a clue that the sender knew/suspected frozen Geller and that Dex had used the Geller's hand to make the prints. That would make sense. Louis has been ignored by Dex and Louis wants Dex to know that he's smart enough to have figured stuff out. Louis is trying to prove he's worthy. I don't think Louis sees Dex as a cold-blooded killer, but more like the Dark Avenger comic character -- a romanticized version, that he wants to be a part of. I don't think Dex will get all of that (unless there's some kind of note as well in the package). I think Dex will get that someone with access to the evidence room (he doesn't know about the auction) is trying to blackmail or knows his secret.

  4. Dexter dealt with these guys back in college. He'll deal with him soon enough

  5. I belive that dexter will not get caught this season. i have been hearing that louis might be just like dexter and maybe hell become a bay harbour butcher imposter, that will force deb to look into the files and realize the truth about laguerta. i think laguerta is somehow connected to the bay harbour butcher case and she will be the one on dexters table. i also think masuka will get killed in the season finale

  7. If Lewis is the next Dexter foe, it will be interesting in the fact that both are working out of the same office. It will probably take Dexter awhile to figure this one out. Lewis will have the inside knowledge just like Dexter. I know his "internship" ended, but the door was left open when Masuka said he would farm out work to him... probably as he gets tied up with other things. BRING ON SEPTEMBER!/rc

  8. I think we will learn that one of a couple different scenerios.....1. They are uncle/nephew (just cant figure out the ages) or 2. Louis was Brians confidante in the institution, and that's why he is so intrigued with Dexter, orl 3. Louis could even he Debras halfbrother since we already know Harry had a thing with the women.......either way it surfaces there has to be reason other than "video games" why he is obsessed with Dexter

  9. Oh I would LOVE it if Lumen came back in season 7!!! I miss the romance part. But then what about Debra? Maybe Dex will have to kill her (??)... She knows now.. I can't wait!!! When is season 7 coming out???

  10. Last thing I would like to see is the return of Lumen. There is nothing interesting to explore there anymore at least in my opinion.

Love theme between Debra and Dexter is far more interesting and satisfying than Lumen ever was.

It would awesome to see D&D experience unimaginably powerful true love together and Debra getting to know the real Dex more by each episode.

  11. I agree with Anon 4:59. Although I loved season 5 and Lumen, and at the time I was hoping for a return of Lumen. Deb and Dex together will definitely be more interesting!! Looking forward to the moment when Dex finds out about her feelings and to the moments when he doesn't know yet.

  12. What the hell just happened?
I am stunned that any of you guys can speculate about anything else than Debra's discovery. This is how the world ends. Indeed.

  13. Yes, all eyes are on Deb! I can't wait to see how what she saw will change everything between Deb and Dexter and what effect it will have on her feelings for him. He is of course, clueless about how she feels about him...What will he do to save the situation? Now she knows! Very interesting and intriguing turn of events.
I wish there was a trailer for next season!

  14. How she feels after what she just saw? What she saw will upset her, but it won't change what she feels.

I mean think about it, Harry taught Dex how to do that sick and twisted stuff, and Deb loves Dexter on a whole 'nother level. Dex isn't just a passing fancy for her, he is her idol, her one true love... she has spent her entire life idealizing him and her whole identity is wrapped up in him in a way that neither Rita nor Lumen could touch. That just doesn't "vanish" because she see's him do something bad.

If you have ever met a woman who loves a man that much, you'd know what goes down next. We've all seen it a million times. She either goes over the edge and falls into darkness with him, or she tries to "save him" with her love. It will be interesting which road the writers take.

The test for the writers next year, is, do they follow the characters, or do they back down because of the people erroneously making this a morality issue and whining "incest" on the internet?

If they didn't want to go down this road, they should have kept it as subtext, because there is no going back now without ruining the legacy of the show. You can't piss away the whole story for all time and in the future, just because on faction of fans is demanding it one way. Even worse, because they opened this can of worms they really hit the nerve of the people who always saw this for what it was, and wanted to see this story. They have created a lose lose situation from a "fan" viewpoint. Before the summer is out there is going to be a whole faction of "Crazy Shippers" on this show. And NOBODY is as loud in fandom as crazy shippers... One set of people will want the happy ending with Deb and Dex riding into the sunset with their family, and the other set will be screaming "incest' "incest" "It was all a dream" "Dexter can NEVER love her."

    Oh joy! Who to appease?

This is why it is imperative that the characters lead the narrative, not the fans.

  15. Crazy shipper here and I will be LOUD! lol

The person above me pretty much said it all, well done!

  16. Is it possible that Louis is Lumen's brother? Perhaps she confided in him and that is why he is so fascinated by Dexter and wants to be his sidekick as his "sister" Lumen was.

  17. When Deb walked into that room and saw Dexter, the first thing I though of was that scene in Season Two when Dexter imagines telling Deb that he's the Bay Harbor Butcher. I honestly don't know where the writers will take that scene, but I like to speculate that Deb will help him...clean up the mess or even be somewhat understanding of why he did it. I mean, she could think that Dexter did it because Travis DID try to kill her. And then she could interpret that as how much he "loves" her. Just a thought.
As far as Louis goes, I highly doubt he's connected to Lumen in any way and I have absolutely no desire to see her re-enter the scene. Their romance seemed forced and a little boring to me in season five, and I don't see how it would serve any purpose now. (I loved Season 5 aside from their romance bit.) I think it would, however, be interesting if Louis had some connection to Rudy...I loved Rudy's return in this season, even though it was so harshly criticized. The thought of the Ice Truck killer resurfacing here and there excites me, and with Louis mailing back the hand and all...that seems rather likely.
I don't think it was any accident that Louis ended up at Dexter's station, and notice when he tells Dexter about his video game how he says: "You can even be the Bay Harbor Butcher." Maybe he thought he would impress Dexter with this because it would be a way for him to re-live his kills, and that's why he was so distraught when Dexter refused and was repulsed by his "gift."
    What do you guys think?

  18. Is Louis/Lewis too young to be rita's 1st Husband? Remember; Rita never told Dexter about the 1st husband. Also I dont think the arm was his dead brother's. It was from one of the hookers his brother killed and drained all the blood out of and seperated the limbs like the barbie doll in dexters freezer I am also thinking that Deb seeing Dex was a dream or daydream from either Dex or Deb

    ReplyDelete
  19. It was a prosthetic arm, doesn't anyone pay attention?! Also, I was severely let down by this season. Sure, season 5/Lumen storyline was a little boring, but season 6 was just plain awful in comparison. I liked some of the Doomsday Killer storyline, but all those unnecessary fillers (naked women/sex scenes were for ratings, trying to save from poor writing; return of Rudy and the entire road trip was ridiculous; Angel was not himself; Deb love thing? Come on! They could have just continued the original "I wish my brother would connect with me" relationship, she still could talk about that in therapy...). I really hope that the next season goes back to focusing on a quality, slower paced, interesting story. If not, they should just end the show while it's still "good."

    1. 100% agree wtih this. I was so disappointed with this season. If Michael C. Hall wasn't so amazing, I don't know if I would be watching now.

  20. anon 10:21, that was the most rediculous comment i've ever seen, season 6 was in every way possible better than season 5, however, on a more positive note, soleil rose makes some really good points

I like how all of these people are complaining about the quality of the past couple of seasons. If you dont like it anymore, just dont watch it. It is pretty simple. Ok, I am done, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

  22. The only way the series could get better is if Doakes was on the show. You have to admit that the best moments from the show were the ones with James Doakes, he was BA. "surprise muthaf**ker"

  23. Its Incredible how nobody mentioned Dexter's last words: "Oh,God". All the season 6 was about faith and God. And after he was truly convinced about his beliefs concerning God, and just after killing Travis (God's Witness), the word God just slips out of his mouth when he sees Deb and his world breaks down into pieces. So, in a certain way, no matter how powerful Dex thinks he is, he turns toward a greater force than him when he is in a weak place. (i am not a believer actually).

And about Louis, he never discovered that Dex is a serial Killer, he just was fascinated by the guy. So, all the ideas of Louis being Rita's first husband or Lumen's Brother are totally irrelevant.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Love all your comments and theories, but, whatever Deb does next - I don't believe she will help "clean up" or "understand". She is far too passionate about her job and also doing the right thing no matter what! It will definitely be interesting though and I can't wait till it starts!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I actually think it is pretty obvious how the next (final) two seasons will play out. Deb will at first buy that Dexter was just protecting her, because Doomsday tried to kill her and his son. Then over time her cop instincts and not being able to let anything go will cause her to do more research. As this story builds and builds we will get a new "Big Bad" in Louis, who will want to play similar games as Dexter's brother did in season 1. This brings the series fill circle.

As for the last scene it will be Deb finally having to take down her own brother, which completes the cycle of her story. Everytime he loves someone they are either killer or die (sometimes both).
Show ends with Hall's voice over about how Deb did the right thing and her and his son and the world will be a better place without the Dark Passenger.....BLACK.

  26. Is it just me or did they kind of gloss over the forensic testing that undoubtedly would have been done on Gellar's hand? They mention that Travis must have killed Gellar but they weren't sure when so they would have done tests on the hand to find out when it was severed which in turn would lead them to find out that it had been frozen for quite some time and then severed. There were a few other convenient 'gloss overs' I noticed when watching the series but I forget them now.

  27. i don't get why so many people are complaining about seasons 5 and 6 being so poor. we as fans have been blessed to have seen this show at such great levels as season 1, 2 and 4 (they were the best IMO) Seasons 3,5 and 6 may have not been up to par with Dexter fans but they are still better seasons then 95% of shows on TV. I think we gotta wait for the story to un-fold, seasons 6,7 and 8 will have no time off within in the show as i understand it. Saying that i think i'll hold my real judgement about season 6 after this series is finally complete, we have no idea what we may have missed during season 6 that could come back in season 7 or 8.

saying that i agree with what producer Scott Buck said in his interview, that Deb will just think "holy shit my brother just killed Travis Marshall" i don't think she'll have any thoughts of him being a serial killer right away. What i do think she'll notice eventually though, is how easy and calm Dexter was when he killed Travis and the wrapping of plastic. But Dexter can always point that to how long "Doakes" got away with killing people that way and he thought it would be best to do it like that.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Deb becoming suspicious about Dexter being a serial killer till like halfway through the season.

As far as Louis goes, the only theory I like that i've read is that he was connected with Rudy when Rudy was in the mental hospital somehow. Some of my friends have said they think Louis and Deb's Therapist are somehow connected but i don't know how that would work. Mother/Son relationship? But i don't see the motivation for the therapist in that situation. anyway, i can't wait for September 30th! it can't get here fast enough.

  28. I can not believe any one would think the Deb and Dexter romance is a good thing. I'm a huge Dexter fan and I totally felt creeped out by it. Season 6 was my least favorite season so far. Dexter is such a likable person because even though he kills bad people he still cares about his family. I think the writers should bring back Lumen because they had such a strong chemistry and they got each other through such a dark time.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. And what do you propose they do with Lumen? Her story finished, there is no need to go back to that. Her dark time has passed, she doesn't need Dexter anymore.

All in all, a persona non grata for the rest of the series, imo.
