The sophomore season of Dexter: Resurrection is set to premiere by the end of this month, and ahead of its return, Paramount+ has shared a variety of updates as part of the franchise’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
While the full Season 2 trailer has been at the center of the hype, there are actually a few other interesting details that have been revealed, including the title and runtime of Episode 1, and now the official synopsis for the season premiere.
Official Synopsis for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Episode 1
Here is the official episode description from Paramount+:
“Dexter struggles to find purpose beyond the hunt as Harrison begins his NYPD career. A brazen new murderer puts the city on edge. Season 2 premiere.”
Even though the synopsis only contains two sentences, as is often the case with many TV shows out there, there is actually quite a bit to unpack here.
The first part of the description may be the biggest clue, as after what happened during Season 1, Dex may no longer be able to rely on killing as the thing that gives his life structure. The wording suggests that he could be questioning what comes next when the hunt is no longer enough, which actually fits perfectly with the idea of a “new start” without revealing exactly what will change for him.
Meanwhile, Harrison beginning his NYPD career is something we have known about for months thanks to various set photos from the production. Still, seeing it mentioned in the official synopsis makes it obvious that his story is moving further into law enforcement and, potetnially, further away from Dexter’s world.
That could create some interesting tension, especially considering who Harrison’s dad really is and everything he has learned about Dexter over the past few years.
Then there is the final part of the synopsis, which mentions a “brazen new murderer” that has New York City on edge.
Without a doubt, all signs point to this being a reference to the Five Borough Killer, played by Dan Stevens. Based on the wording of the synopsis, it appears the new season will waste little time before introducing this creepy new threat, potentially having Dexter on the trail of his latest target from the very first episode.
