A new month has just begun, officially marking the end of summer, and with Dexter: Resurrection now in the final weeks of production, it looks like September is kicking off with a filming day at one of the most iconic places in the world, and that is Times Square.
Surrounded by filming equipment and monitors, the Dexter: Resurrection production is back in Times Square to film another scene, marking yet another visit to the famous New York location for Season 2. The series has also filmed there before, including during Season 1 in Episode 4, titled “Call Me Red.”
However, this time things are a little different, as the production is carrying out a daytime shoot, with filming taking place from the early morning hours.
The... Mysterious Gorilla Has Finally Been Found
We actually knew that something unusual was being filmed in Times Square on September 1 for quite some time.
Back on August 15, Waldron Casting posted a casting call looking for an individual who owned a very specific type of gorilla costume. The costume was needed for a scene that was scheduled to be filmed for Dexter: Resurrection.
It was easily one of the strangest casting calls we have seen for the show, but it now looks like the mystery has finally been solved!
Director Marcos Siega took to Instagram to share a new behind-the-scenes photo showing himself alongside showrunner Clyde Phillips and executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds. The three are all smiles as they pose next to the giant fake gorilla right in the heart of New York City.
Siega simply captioned the photo: “Just another day in Times Square.”
The exact same image, which you can see at the top of this article, was also shared by Reynolds, who added: “It’s gonna be a gorilla kinda day.”
What Is the Gorilla Doing in Dexter: Resurrection?
Of course, we still have no idea why the production needed this exact gorilla costume for the scene. Fans have already started coming up with some interesting theories, although there is currently nothing to confirm what the gorilla is actually going to be used for.
For now, all signs point toward the costume being part of the background action in the Times Square scene. Still, we cannot wait to find out which characters will be involved and more importantly, how this gorilla fits into the story.
Considering how far ahead Season 2 is in production at this point, we will have to wait until the season premieres to finally get a legit answer.
