As updates for the second season of Dexter: Resurrection continue to appear in various forms, fans actually have a lot of interesting stuff to dive into, especially since Paramount+ released the first teaser trailer.
Among the latest developments are a couple of new interviews with showrunner Clyde Phillips, who shared some interesting and spoiler-filled details about the upcoming season. One of those interviews came from TVLine and was accompanied by an exclusive, never-before-seen still from Season 2.
In the new image which you can see above, we see Michael C. Hall back in character as Dexter Morgan, hitting the gym while listening to some "self-help podcasts," as the scoop article revealed. He is definitely trying to stay in shape, which is something we haven't seen Dexter do in many years.
But... which episode is the image from?
Based on our research, we can confirm that the new still comes from Episode 2 of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
The TVLine interview also gave us some new insight into what Dex will be dealing with this season. Phillips said that Dexter is heading toward a midlife crisis, something we've known about for months, but the showrunner added an important detail: "He's feeling it, physically."
Phillips went on to explain that when Dexter is chasing someone who is more physically fit than he is, he actually starts running into problems. "He's got to overcome and outsmart that," he said.
That becomes even more interesting when you consider the two major villains Dexter will be dealing with this season. On one side is the New York Ripper (played by Brian Cox), who is in his 80s, while Dan Stevens' Five Borough Killer is probably less than half his age.
With Dexter caught between these two very different extremes, his age is becoming more difficult to ignore, and his physical limitations may force him to approach things differently.
Even though Cox's villain may be "elderly and somewhat infirm," Phillips stressed that he is "still very dangerous." As the showrunner put it, "Dexter has got to use more brain than brawn" now.
The interview also revealed another interesting development involving two enemies from Season 1. Not only are they now going to share the same profession, but they will also be working in the exact same NYPD department.
We're of course talking about Harrison, who will now be working in the same prestinct (27th) as Detective Claudette Wallace and Sergeant Melvin Oliva.
Based on what we learned from Phillips, the two officers will actually continue to serve as "great adversaries" for Dexter. However, with Harrison now working alongside them, the situation could inevitably become much more complicated.
At this point in the story, Harrison knows exactly what his father does for nearly five years, and that creates a very dangerous line for the show to explore according to Phillips.
This latest glimpse from the showrunner gives us an even better idea of what Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 has in store for some of its biggest characters.
From what Phillips has revealed, things are going to get more and more complicated for Dexter, both professionally and personally. While he is dealing with two completely different killers, he will also be forced to confront his own changing abilities as he feels the effects of getting older.
And with Harrison now working inside the NYPD alongside two people that could bring Dexter down, the father-son relationship could actually become even more difficult to navigate.
