Original Dexter Character Returns from the Dead in a Classic Miami Look in New Resurrection Season 2 Set Photos

Fresh set images from the New York set of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 show David Zayas reprising his iconic role as Angel Batista.

September 1 ended up being one of the most significant and eventful days on the set of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. Filming took place in Times Square, with thousands of people watching as Michael C. Hall and Uma Thurman filmed an exciting scene together. But as it turns out, they weren’t the only familiar faces spotted at the location.

Brand-new images from the Bauer-Griffin photo agency, taken at the exact same filming location, have revealed that an original Dexter actor whose character has already passed away was also there among the cast and crew, signaling his return as a ghost in this episode.

That actor is David Zayas, who is reprising his role as Angel Batista in Season 2. That’s right, “La Pasion” is officially back.

While Zayas was spotted by a fan during the first couple of weeks of filming for the second season, this is actually the first time he has been captured from the same paparazzo who has been following the Dexter: Resurrection production.

And there is one detail about Batista’s return that (especially) longtime Dexter fans are going to love.

Despite filming this particular scene in Times Square, Batista wasn’t wearing an outfit similar to the one he wore during Season 1 of Dexter: Resurrection. Instead, he was sporting the same fedora and a similar floral shirt to the ones he often wore during the original series, something that brings back memories of the good-old Miami days.

Angel Batista Is Back in His Classic Miami Look

The Dexter franchise actually has a long history of bringing deceased characters back from the dead, although obviously not in a literal sense. And, it looks like Angel Batista is no exception. Based on the newest set images, Zayas appears to be making more than one appearance throughout the season as Batista, returning as part of Dexter Morgan’s mind.

Michael C. Hall recently described the ghost appearances of Harry, Debra and Brian as part of Dexter’s “interior landscape,” and it appears Batista will now be joining them in that space.

In the new set photos, Zayas can be seen with a constant smile on his face while interacting with Michael C. Hall, showrunner Clyde Phillips, director Marcos Siega and writer Scott Reynolds. Unfortunately, it appears the paparazzo may not have captured the moments when the cameras were actually rolling on the specific scene featuring ghost Batista and Dexter.

As for why Angel Batista appeared during this particular scene involving Dexter Morgan and Charley Brown in such a busy location, that remains a mystery for now.

Still, just like the ghost appearances throughout the previous seasons have always served a purpose, Batista’s return is very unlikely to be random. These characters appear when Dex is dealing with something important, and Batista’s presence could be giving us another glimpse into what is going on inside Dexter’s head at this specific moment in Season 2, which is close to the finale.
