Footage from the specific scene filmed in Times Square went viral online, leaving fans wondering what is really going on between Dexter and Charley.
The following article contains major spoilers from Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
September kicked off with a particularly eventful day on the set of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, and this time, the production was right in the middle of Times Square.
With thousands of people passing through one of New York City’s busiest locations, it was impossible for the filming to go unnoticed. For hours on September 1, Michael C. Hall and Uma Thurman were at the center of attention as they filmed a scene involving Dexter Morgan and Charley Brown.
And judging by the footage and photos that made their way online fast, there may be much more going on in this scene than initially meets the eye.
Charley Appears to Threaten Dexter at Gunpoint
Based on the various behind-the-scenes videos shared online, the scene begins with Dexter casually dressed and looking at his phone. Moments later, Charley approaches him from behind and catches him off guard.
Dexter’s reaction is particularly interesting, as Michael C. Hall’s expression seems to suggest that Charley’s sudden appearance has caught him completely by surprise.
Things actually become even more intriguing when Charley is seen holding onto Dexter’s arm with one hand while wearing a trench coat, as seen in the image on the top of this article.
In some shots, Thurman’s other hand appears to be inside the coat’s pocket, leading many fans to believe that she could be hiding a handgun inside.
Considering the scene was being filmed in Times Square, it would make sense for the weapon to remain concealed. Having Charley openly walk around one of the busiest places in New York with a gun in her hand would obviously attract even more attention.
That possibility has actually become one of the biggest talking points for fans who have seen the footage, and there is certainly enough in the available material to make the theory believable.
What Does This Mean for Dexter and Charley?
The timing of this scene makes it even more interesting. Dexter and Charley appeared to be getting along surprisingly well earlier in Season 2, seemingly putting much of their prevous hatred for one another behind them. That actually makes this apparent confrontation seem especially ominous.
Since the scene appears to come from the final couple of episodes of the season, it raises a big question. And that is, what happened between them? The footage seems to show Charley threatening Dexter before the two eventually sit together at a nearby marble bench in Times Square and have a more civilized conversation, as you can see in the image below:
There is something especially interesting about the location itself, as well. Times Square is probably the last place you would expect two enemies to have a private meeting, but it can also serve as a neutral and highly public location where neither side has a clear advantage. And that could be important to the scene we are seeing.
Extended Behind-the-Scenes Footage Reveals More
One of our Dexter Daily readers and longtime Dexter fan, sistapam, managed to make her way to the filming location and capture behind-the-scenes footage using the zoom capabilities on her phone.
Of course, she wasn’t the only person recording. Dozens, if not hundreds, of people appear to have captured photos and videos from the set that day. However, her footage gives an interesting extended look at the scene, including moments between takes and more of Dexter and Charley’s interaction.
Take a look at the video below:
Watching Michael C. Hall during scenes like this, it is sometimes easy to imagine Dexter Morgan’s inner monologue simply from his facial expressions. But this particular scene may be even more interesting because of the conversation taking place while Charley appears to have Dexter at gunpoint.
This is also where fans with good lip-reading skills may want to pay close attention.
Is Dexter and Charley’s Relationship Changing Again?
There is, however, one important thing to keep in mind. Even though this scene appears to be highly significant and potentially very spoilery, it was filmed in one of the most public locations imaginable. The production team surely knew that photos and videos would end up online almost immediately.
That alone makes us wonder whether the scene is exactly what it appears to be. Does this confrontation mean Dexter and Charley are becoming enemies again? Or is there a misunderstanding at play that makes the situation look much worse than it actually is?
At this point, we simply don't know. What we do know is that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 appears to be building toward a very interesting turn in the relationship between Dexter and Charley, and this Times Square scene has only made us even more curious about where the two characters will actually end up.
