Pat Irwin Back to Score Dexter: Resurrection’s Second Season as Recording Kicks Off

Irwin is returning for a fourth consecutive season to handle the OST for Season 2.

Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 may already be well into filming, with the cast and crew keeping the cameras busy, but that’s not the only part of the show moving ahead quickly. The original soundtrack is also in progress, and it’s actually confirmed that Pat Irwin will return for his fourth straight Dexter project.

Irwin first joined the franchise with Dexter: New Blood, and three years later he was brought back to compose for both Dexter: Original Sin and Dexter: Resurrection Season 1. The team behind the show clearly trusts his work, as he’s now set to handle the score for the second season of the sequel too.

He confirmed the news in a post on his personal Instagram account, writing, “It’s time to start recording some things for Dexter. Stay tuned.” He also suggested that recording has already begun, which likely means some of the new music is already finished.

Looking ahead, it’ll be interesting to see what Irwin actually creates for the expanding lineup of characters. That includes The New York Ripper, played by Brian Cox, who was widely talked about during Season 1.

There’s also Owen Stark, also known as The Five Borough Killer, portrayed by Dan Stevens, who will likely have a very different musical tone. Irwin has hinted that some of his new material is being shaped by the Season 2 scripts and its new characters.

Scoring a series like Dexter is definitely not a simple task. Each theme has to match a character’s personality and mood, and that’s what makes the soundtrack stand out. So far, Irwin has handled that challenge very well.

One of the most memorable moments came in Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 with Leon Prater’s theme, built around an amazing and haunting piano melody that really stood out. Right now, there are still no official plans to release soundtracks for either Original Sin or Resurrection as full albums, but considering how strong the music has been, there’s still hope that could actually change soon.
