After more than a decade, Dexter will once again wear his beloved outfit in the upcoming second season of the sequel series.
2026 marks exactly two decades since Dexter first debuted on Showtime, and with a new season ahead of us, some really exciting things are being prepared by the people behind Dexter: Resurrection. While it was recently revealed that there are plans for the opening sequence to return, it looks like something else is coming back too. And that is Dexter Morgan’s iconic kill outfit with the olive henley.
That’s right, the outfit in which the character of Dexter Morgan was first introduced to audiences back in the original pilot, and carried through the rest of the series in scenes where Dexter was up against a killer, is officially set to return.
The last time we actually saw America’s favorite serial killer wearing that iconic outfit was during a really tragic and traumatising moment in the original series finale in 2013, when Dexter got rid of his sister Debra’s body in the ocean, before driving his boat Slice of Life straight into Hurricane Laura, signaling that he had left Miami for good.
So, after exactly 13 years, it looks like the kill outfit, which consists of the olive henley and olive cargo pants, is set to be worn again by Dexter Morgan, now in his 50s and in a completely different location compared to the sunshine state.
While some of you might think we already saw Dexter wearing that outfit in the series premiere of Dexter: Resurrection, that doesn’t really count, as it was part of a dream sequence or hallucination where Dexter had a fictional conversation with Miguel Prado played by Jimmy Smits.
This time is different, as for old times’ sake, Dexter has actually brought that look back in the present timeline, and for real.
How Was It Confirmed?
The confirmation came through a specific new set image showing Michael C. Hall as Dexter during a late-night shoot in Brooklyn. In this spoiler-free photo, the actor was seen wearing the iconic henley, cargo pants, and brown boots, though only sharp-eyed fans caught it, since he also had a black jacket on top to stay warm between takes.
Since the jacket wasn’t fully zipped, the henley and its buttons were clearly visible, basically confirming that the kill outfit will return just in time for the franchise’s 20th anniversary. See it for yourself in the photo below:
This decision by the writing team to bring back the outfit after 13 years is not only about the anniversary, and it likely reflects the character’s mindset in the upcoming season of Dexter: Resurrection. It could actually show that Dexter is continuing to accept who he really is, so after the return of the trophies in Season 1, it was only a matter of time before he found his way back to that look.
Following the return of the blood slide trophies, and the clear intention from showrunner Clyde Phillips to bring back the original title sequence with a... reimagined version and the same music by Rolfe Kent, bringing back the kill outfit really is inevitable at this point. This trio of classic Dexter elements is now coming together, and it really does feel like old times again!
