Michael C. Hall’s Band Returns to Dexter with 'Resurrection Remix' in Episode 5 End Credits

To mark the occasion, the band has released a new lyric video of the song on YouTube.

Music has always played a crucial—if often understated—role in setting the tone for Dexter. While the original series wasn't particularly known for its heavy use of licensed tracks, that approach shifted with Dexter: New Blood in 2021. The creative team behind the revival wanted to differentiate it from the original run, and one key way they did so was by integrating more contemporary music into the storytelling.

Originally conceived as a limited series, Dexter: New Blood took bold narrative swings—including what many believed was Dexter Morgan’s definitive end. But that all changed when Michael C. Hall himself advocated for revisiting the character’s fate. Thanks to his involvement and the series' enduring popularity, Dexter: Resurrection was born—an all-new continuation currently airing new episodes.

Though only weeks separate the in-universe timeline between New Blood and Resurrection, nearly four years passed between their productions. Still, one thing that’s remained consistent is the use of licensed music, helping maintain a sense of continuity between the two series. As of Episode 4, Dexter: Resurrection had already featured over 20 licensed tracks, a number that continues to grow with each episode.

Episode 5 of Resurrection stood out in particular—not just for its plot twists, but for its end credits. For the second time this season, the iconic “Blood Theme”—the melody that has closed out episodes for nearly two decades—was replaced. In its place was a song that fans of Michael C. Hall will immediately recognize: “Eat an Eraser” by his band Princess Goes.

If you're unfamiliar, Princess Goes (formerly Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum) is a New York-based trio that blends synth-pop, electronic, theatrical, and experimental rock—a style they describe as "Gothadelic Rocktronic." Formed in 2018, the band features Hall as the lead vocalist, alongside Matt Katz-Bohen (keyboards, synths, and guitar) and Peter Yanowitz (drums and backing vocals).

The song “Eat an Eraser” originally debuted in late 2020—ironically around the same time Dexter's return was first announced after a seven-year hiatus. To mark its inclusion in Episode 5 of Dexter: Resurrection, the band released a special “Resurrection Remix” of the track on YouTube, complete with on-screen lyrics.

This marks the second time a song from Hall’s band has been featured in a Dexter series. The first was in Dexter: New Blood, which included the track “Ketamine.”
