This latest post-mortem featurette gives us some interesting insights into the new series.
As the premiere of Dexter: Resurrection Episode 3, titled “Backseat Drive,” draws closer, excitement is building rapidly among fans. With questions swirling — Where will Dexter’s new journey take him? What’s next for Angel Batista? — the mystery is only deepening. But for now, we’ll have to wait for the season to unfold before those answers come into focus.
Currently, we’re still processing the intense events of Episode 2, “Camera Shy,” and to help us dive deeper into its pivotal moments, Showtime has released a brand-new post-mortem featurette — part of a behind-the-scenes series that began with Dexter: Original Sin last winter.
These post-episode featurettes offer fans exclusive insights into the show’s key story developments and unforgettable scenes, straight from the cast and creators. In this latest installment, we hear from Uma Thurman, Michael C. Hall, Clyde Phillips, and Scott Reynolds, who share their thoughts on Episode 2’s most buzzworthy moments.
Uma Thurman on Charley: “Business Tough-Guy Chic”
Thurman kicked things off by shedding light on Charley’s distinctive persona and wardrobe:
“I would call it business tough-guy chic. She is not a woman to be messed with. When you meet the implacable, graceful, and extremely subdued Charley, the twist is that she could be triggered.”
And trigger she did. Episode 2 introduced a brutal and unforgettable scene where Charley unleashes violence on a blackmailer at the Canton Club.
Showrunner Clyde Phillips explained:
“Charley is meeting with someone — the Canton Clubber — who’s demanding more money. And you don’t get to do that.”
Scott Reynolds added his perspective on the chilling moment:
“When you see the bat, you know exactly what it’s used for. A knife is one thing, but this… this is brutal.”
The Weapon of Choice: “Medieval”
Thurman described the scene in graphic detail:
“She uses, upon the victim, the weapon of his choice — a gnarly baseball bat with nails protruding from it. It’s probably one of the most vicious instruments you’ll ever imagine. It’s medieval.”
A Dream Casting: Uma Thurman Joins the Dexter Universe
The creators didn’t hold back their excitement about having Uma Thurman onboard.
Reynolds said:
“For me, having Uma Thurman on the show — and for Clyde having me on the show — this was a dream come true. We’ve got Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill walking around on set!”
Phillips echoed the sentiment:
“She’s so powerful. You can’t take your eyes off her. All of her ideas have been terrific. She’s a complete professional and just wonderful to work with.”
Michael C. Hall on Dexter’s Pride and Pain
Series star Michael C. Hall reflected on the intense hotel scene — after Harrison committed his first kill:
“When Dexter inspects the hotel and the crime scene, he’s honestly impressed with the job his son did cleaning up. His deepest fear and deepest desire are one and the same: for his son to be like him. Because he longs for connection. He’s a lonely guy.”
Changing Dynamics: Dexter and Harry’s Relationship Evolves
Hall also touched on how Dexter’s relationship with Harry has shifted:
“Dexter has learned things about Harry that make it harder for him to revere him in the same way. Their relationship is entering a more antagonistic phase than ever before.”
Reynolds added:
“What’s different this season is that Harry is no longer quite the conscience. It’s not just ‘follow the code’ anymore. They’re peers now — and they’re friends.”
