A closer look at the new set photos, and a breakdown of the scene.
Who would have thought that three years after the controversial finale of Dexter: New Blood—with cast and crew insisting its ending was final, and Dexter Morgan was truly dead—we’d see Michael C. Hall return to the iconic role?
Well, it’s happening, Dexter fans! The new set photos from earlier today confirm what we’ve all been waiting for: Dexter Morgan is alive, Michael C. Hall is back, and this time, the story will unfold over multiple seasons in the highly anticipated Dexter: Resurrection.
Currently, Dexter: Resurrection is in its fourth week of filming in New York City. Following last week’s first glimpse of Harrison Morgan, fans were treated to a treasure trove of nearly 20 set photos, courtesy of Backgrid. These images (click here to see them all) offer exciting clues about what’s to come—and we’ve broken them down for you here on Dexter Daily!
Dexter’s Car in Dexter: Resurrection
The images feature Michael C. Hall seated inside a car, where much of the scene’s action appears to take place. The vehicle, clearly stolen, is a camouflage-painted 1995 Ford Bronco with a striking red leather interior. What stands out most are the UFO-themed stickers on the car, including messages like “Take me to your leader” and “I believe.” A shovel and black net strapped to the roof add to the mystery of Dexter’s latest endeavor.
James Remar Returns as Harry Morgan
Earlier this month, James Remar revealed that he is reprising his role as Harry Morgan. These set photos mark his first appearance in 12 years as the ghostly version of Dexter’s adoptive father, offering fans a nostalgic connection to the original series.
Dexter’s NYC Look and New Haircut
Michael C. Hall’s wardrobe for the NYC scenes includes a quilted olive-green jacket layered over a dark gray crew neck sweater. Fans may also notice a subtle change in Dexter’s appearance: his hair is now styled to the left side, a departure from his signature look in Dexter and Dexter: New Blood.
Harrison Morgan’s New Job
Harrison’s casual outfit in one image matches his look from Dexter: New Blood, right down to the iconic blue jacket.
The image on the left, where Harrison is wearing the same clothes as in New Blood, suggests it was filmed for a scene that takes place after he arrives in New York following the "killing" of his father. In contrast, the image on the right appears to be from a different episode, potentially indicating a significant time jump, with Harrison now having established a life and a job in NYC.
Harrison Morgan, still portrayed as 16 or 17 years old (depending on whether a time jump occurs), has taken a job as a bellhop at the Empire Hotel in NYC—a real hotel, adding authenticity to the series.
Dexter’s Recovery and Harry’s Guidance
Fans are speculating about how Dexter managed to recover from the near-fatal bullet wound and severe blood loss revealed in the Dexter: Original Sin flashforward. The scenes with Dexter and ghost Harry in the car may take place later in the season or reflect a significant time jump in the storyline.
What Is Dexter Doing in This Scene?
Two theories have emerged about Dexter’s motives in this scene:
- Searching for Harrison – It appears Dexter may have tracked his son to NYC and is watching him from afar, with Harry providing ghostly advice. In the image above, which seems to depict the actors filming a scene, it appears that Dexter is contemplating approaching Harrison. Meanwhile, ghost Harry is sternly admonishing him, urging him to reconsider and stay away from Harrison.
- Stalking a New Victim – Though less likely, it’s possible Dexter is back to his old ways and scoping out a target.
Who’s Directing These Episodes?
Marcos Siega (pictured above, chatting with Michael C. Hall between takes), who directed six episodes of Dexter: New Blood, is back behind the camera for Dexter: Resurrection. He’s set to direct six episodes of the new series, while Monica Raymund, known for her work on Dexter: Original Sin, will helm the remaining four episodes.
