Reno Wilson Teases Bobby Watt’s Role in Recreating Dexter’s Iconic Shipping Container Scene

The upcoming episodes will include a reimagining of this pivotal and shocking scene.

As we bid farewell to 2024, the Dexter universe, or "Dexter-verse," is charging into 2025 with a wealth of new content. The highly anticipated prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, is four episodes into its debut season, with six more episodes to unravel the story. Since its premiere, the series has captivated fans, offering fresh insights into the origins of Dexter Morgan and his complex world.

Dual Timelines: 1991 and 1973

The first four episodes of Dexter: Original Sin have established a dual-timeline narrative, primarily set in 1991, the series' "present day." However, the story frequently flashes back to 1973, the year Laura Moser, Dexter’s mother, was brutally murdered—a pivotal event that set the course for the entire franchise.

Through these flashbacks, viewers are given a deeper look into the lives of Laura Moser and her sons, Brian and Dexter, before tragedy struck. The idyllic family life is slowly overshadowed by the looming threat of cartel violence, culminating in the infamous shipping container massacre that forever changed the Moser brothers' lives.

Shocking Revelations and Character Depth

Episode 4, titled "Fender Bender," delivered a bombshell revelation: Harry Morgan, Dexter's adoptive father, had a romantic relationship with Laura Moser. This affair, hinted at in the original series, is now confirmed. The revelation adds new layers to Harry’s character, exposing his moral failings and the personal tragedies that shaped his decisions, including his infidelity to his wife Doris after losing their son, Harry Jr.

The episode also introduced a younger Bobby Watt, portrayed by Reno Wilson, a newcomer to the Dexter-verse. Thanks to impressive de-aging technology, Wilson seamlessly plays both the 1973 and 1991 versions of the character. Bobby is depicted as a long-time friend and colleague of Harry, and his presence in the series has already sparked speculation about his role in key moments of Dexter's origin story.

A Link to the Original Series

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Reno Wilson teased Bobby Watt's connection to an iconic scene from the original series. When asked about Bobby’s awareness of Dexter's "dark passenger," Wilson cryptically responded:

“No. But I will say there is a very iconic moment that Bobby is a part of that we didn’t know that he was a part of it watching the original series.”

This revelation hints that Dexter: Original Sin will recontextualize pivotal events from the original series, potentially revealing unseen perspectives of the Miami Metro detectives and officers who were involved in the fallout of Laura Moser’s murder.

The Path Ahead

As the series progresses, fans are eager to see how Harry and Bobby’s relationship evolves, especially as Harry wrestles with his controversial decision to raise Dexter while leaving Brian to the foster care system. Bobby’s involvement in these decisions, as well as his reaction to Dexter’s transformation, promises to add further complexity to the narrative.

With six episodes remaining, Dexter: Original Sin is set to deepen the lore of the Dexter-verse, connecting past and present while exploring the moral ambiguities and tragic choices that define its characters.
