After over a year of anticipation, Showtime finally announced on May 23, 2024, that Dexter: Original Sin (formerly titled Dexter: Origins) is officially happening. Alongside this exciting news, they introduced the three talented actors portraying the Morgans: Patrick Gibson as Dexter, Christian Slater as Harry, and Molly Brown as Deb.

Dexter: Original Sin Brings Miami to Life

Filming for Dexter: Original Sin kicked off in Miami on June 5, just 12 days after the announcement. The crew spent 10 days capturing the vibrant Miami setting before moving to Los Angeles to complete the rest of the 10-episode first season, which wrapped on November 21. The highly anticipated series premiered on December 13, with four episodes released by the end of the year.

Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin takes fans back 15 years before the events of the original series, exploring Dexter’s formative years. With four episodes aired so far, fans are loving this fresh installment, eagerly awaiting Episode 5, dropping this Friday.

Major Announcements at San Diego Comic-Con 2024

The excitement didn’t stop there! At San Diego Comic-Con 2024 in July, showrunner Clyde Phillips took the stage during the Dexter: Original Sin panel to drop a bombshell: Dexter: Resurrection is coming. This new series will continue the story after the events of Dexter: New Blood, with none other than Michael C. Hall reprising his iconic role as Dexter Morgan. Yes, our favorite serial killer is alive, as confirmed in the pilot episode of Dexter: Original Sin.

A Prequel Focused on Arthur Mitchell

Another exciting project in the works is a prequel series centered on young Arthur Mitchell (the infamous Trinity Killer). Despite earlier reports in Spring 2024 suggesting the show was shelved, Deadline revealed that the series is fully written and its future depends on the success of Dexter: Original Sin.
