Gellar portrays Dexter's mentor, teaching him about blood patterns and spatter.

We're less than two days away from the release of the pilot episode of Dexter: Original Sin, and the cast is gearing up for the red carpet premiere of the prequel, set to take place in New York in just a few hours. Content from the event will be coming soon here on Dexter Daily, so be sure to stay tuned.

The cast member of Dexter: Original Sin who serves as the special guest star of the season is Sarah Michelle Gellar, one of the biggest casting additions to the franchise. In the latest "Autopsy Report" featurette released by Showtime, the former 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' star discussed her role in the prequel series.

Back to the '90s

"You get into that bullpen and it just feels very Miami in the nineties, like there's no other way to say it. It's a different nineties for me because I was playing a teenager in the nineties. So, adult nineties is all very new."

Dexter's First Boss: A Formidable Force

"Tanya Martin is the head of forensics at Miami Metro, which we take for granted now, but in the early nineties to have a female head of department was incredibly rare. She's tough. I mean, she can hang with the men and then inadvertently, she is also Dexter's boss who teaches him everything he knows about blood and spatter."

"Tanya's an extremely tough boss and she's heard good things about Dexter, but she's not gonna give him a pass just because he's Harry's child, and she expects greatness in her department. So, yes, he's gonna have to pay his dues to get there. That's part of his evolution in terms of becoming a confident serial killer. Because you really don't want it, you know, a not confident serial killer, like that's just a mess."
