Christina Milian and Reno Wilson Discuss Their Characters in Dexter: Original Sin

Young Maria LaGuerta and Bobby Watt actors share their reflections on their roles.

The highly anticipated Dexter: Original Sin returns tomorrow with Episode 104, titled "Fender Bender." Following the recent introduction of a pivotal character from the original series—Maria LaGuerta—Christina Milian, who plays the younger version of LaGuerta, and Reno Wilson, who portrays Detective Bobby Watt, shared insights about their characters in an interview with ScreenRant.

Christina Milian on Maria LaGuerta's Unwavering Determination

Reflecting on her portrayal of a young Maria LaGuerta, Milian remarked:

"Oh, wow. The irony is, I'm not much of the detective type. I'm such a free-spirited, go-with-the-flow kind of person. But Maria? She's been steadfast from the start. I truly believe there are people like that—born with an ingrained sense of purpose. As a mom, I've seen it in my own kids. From day one, Maria’s drive and focus were no accident. She’s always been working toward her goals, whether it’s solving a crime or making her voice heard.

Milian continued, emphasizing LaGuerta’s evolution:

"Playing the younger version of her was exciting. She’s still learning, gaining the experiences that will shape her into the formidable captain we know from Dexter. There’s irony in me playing her—I usually do romantic comedies, making people giggle. But stepping into Maria’s shoes and exploring her youthful determination was a thrill."

Reno Wilson on Bobby Watt's Role in Harry Morgan's Life

Reno Wilson, who brings Detective Bobby Watt to life, highlighted how his character expands the emotional depth of the Morgan family dynamic:

"Bobby Watt’s a fantastic character. He adds a layer of family and support to the Morgans that wasn’t there in the original series. In Dexter, we mostly saw Harry alone, grappling with Dexter's dark urges. But in Original Sin, Bobby is Harry’s best friend and Dexter and Debra’s godfather.

Wilson elaborated on Bobby and Harry's early years:

"We explore their time as young narcotics detectives in the ’70s—think ‘Starsky & Hutch’ vibes. Bobby serves as a sounding board for Harry, and later, as Uncle Bobby, he welcomes Dexter to Miami Metro, offering him unfiltered love and guidance. It’s fulfilling to fill those gaps from the original series."

When asked about the fateful trajectory of his character in the prequel, Wilson teased, "We will see! We will see." Milian added with a smile, "We've got some seasons to go."

With Dexter: Original Sin deepening the backstories of beloved characters and introducing new dynamics, you won’t want to miss what’s next.
