Sarah Michelle Gellar Discusses the Significance of Her 'Dream Job' Role in Dexter: Original Sin

The special guest star of Dexter: Original Sin explains why her role is important to her.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is venturing beyond her usual roles for the highly anticipated prequel, Dexter: Original Sin. The famous actress has joined the cast as a special guest star, taking on the role of Tanya Martin, a forensics expert at the Miami Metro Police Department and Dexter Morgan's boss.

In a recent interview with Variety, Gellar shared her excitement about the role: "I’m the scientist. You believe me as a scientist, right? I do science-y things.”

Explaining why this role was so significant to her, the former 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' star revealed that the prequel is set in the 1990s, where she plays a forensics expert at the Miami Metro Police Department—a rare position for women at the time. “I’m used to portraying formidable women, and she’s no exception. In fact, she’s even more exceptional because women didn’t typically run departments, especially in the sciences, and certainly not in Miami,” she said.

Gellar also mentioned that her character had to be “tough” to stand her ground among her male colleagues. Despite her character's challenging work environment, Sarah Michelle enjoyed being the only woman on set. “It’s actually my dream job!” she added.
