Breaking News via Deadline: Showtime’s flagship drama Dexter opened its sixth season on Sunday with a stellar 2.2 million viewers, up 24% from last year to mark the hit series’ highest-rated premiere ever and Showtime’s best original series opener in at least 14 years. But the prospects of the hit drama going to a seventh season are now uncertain as negotiations between Dexter star Michael C. Hall and Showtime have broken down. I hear that the two sides reached an impasse yesterday, the same day Dexter‘s big Season 6 premiere ratings came out. Hall’s contract for Dexter is up after the current sixth season, which is about to wrap production. He has been negotiating with Showtime for awhile but I hear talks broke down after the two sides couldn’t bridge a $4 million gap in proposed salary for a new deal, with Showtime offering $20 million for two more seasons and Hall’s team asking for $24 million. Either figure would make Hall one of the highest-paid actors in cable. Sources indicate that the network brass remain hopeful about reaching a deal, with signing Hall for one more season vs. 2 also an option. Hall jumped on Dexter immediately after finishing Six Feet Under and, after working on a TV series for 10 straight years, the actor had been looking to do other things, including a Broadway musical. He won a Golden Globe for his role on Dexter last year.
Just get off you high horse Showtime and just PAY THE MAN. The series numbers just keep going up and you KNOW your audience will riot if you don't renew.

I love the show and would love to see more of it - but i totally disagree with the amount of money that actors get paid, not knowing the stipulations of if that is the 24 million to make another 2 seasons of the show - then yea pay up ya cheap bastards. if it's straight to just him then i would like to argue that it's just a little much and he needs to pull a Keanu Reve's and take the pay and be happy.

ReplyDeleteWe need at least one more season. If the show ends after season 6 I am sure we would be left with an unresolved storyline. Michael is the main character and executive producer. He deserves to be among the highest paid actors on television.

Dexter is probably one of the best tv shows on tv right now. Just pay him, Showtime. And, he's is not just the main character, he is also one of the executive producers. So, let's play simple. Pay him ˆˆ

Without Michael Hall, there is no Dexter! Pay him or loose one of the most individual unique shows on TV. Its a lot of money yes, but in the scheme of things its an investment that will return dividends. Fingers crossed that common sence prevails.

Dexter is saving showtime, not seen homeland as not interested, californication is a long way off the greatness it used to be, weeds has gone down the toilet for the last two seasons the big c is ok but not even in the same ball park,Nurse Jackie has seen better days. a lot of your shows are jumping so many sharks you NEED Dexter if you want to keep my $$

ReplyDeleteMichael C. Hall is the very reason I purchased HBO and Showtime. Loved him on 6 Feet Under (own the series and will purchase Dexter too when it has it's final run) and purchased Showtime simply to catch Dex on Sundays after my Son insisted I would love the show. In my opinion, he is a stellar actor and I would love to see him on Broadway too but I don't think the Dex story is finished yet. He is worth EVERY PENNY! When Dex ends my subscription to Showtime will end as well.

ReplyDeleteI wonder who leaked the negotiations to the media. If it was Showtime trying to pose MCH as a greedy actor, its not working. Now if it was Mr. Halls publicist, well kudos to you! Fans will always respond. Just hope all that money doesn't turn him to a LaGuerta, always wanting more at every cost. No, I think he's gona be more like Deb, loving what she does. Not for fame or recognition, nope she loves the f#%*ing job!
