A lot has been said after episode 6.09 "Get Gellar" aired. The episode / the final scene was predictable or surprising? Vote below!

  1. Very predictable...but very similar to the ice truck killer reveal. Viewers knew, but Dexter didn't. I'm sure this was not meant to be the major reveal of the season. It was just as much fun to talk about whether Gellar was real or not in the early episodes to make it worth while. Isn't that the fun of watching Dexter?

  2. I was surprised lol I only gave the idea some thought recently after seeing comments that people thought Gellar/Travis were the same guy. Thining back, there were hints, but I didnt pick them up xD
I'd love to know whats going to happen with the Icetruck killer false hand evidence though.

  3. Yeah the Gellar Travis part was predictable. But it seems that it's just a distraction from problem closer to home - the whole Jaime-Louis thing was not predicted by anyone as far as I saw.

  4. For people who say it was predictable are basically saying they new Gellar was dead the entire time and knew Travis was the only killer...which is a lie. You just need to shut up because I hate when people say things are "predictable" when it is borderline impossible to predict.

  5. above:

    sorry, it WAS very predictable...
and why is it a lie? travis is the only killer...

  6. I found gellar being dead solvable. He fodnyhage coffee, no body ever addressed his appearance, but Travis. Didnt want Travis to be that crazy ..... knew he was leading Dexter into a trap.

  7. It was predictable if you paid attention to the hints the show had been dropping since early on in the season.

I also think it was meant to be that way. This is the first time Dexter has encountered another person who also sees and converses with a manifestation of their dark passenger. This should open his eyes a little to just how messed up he really is.

Everyone is so damn caught up on the "reveal" that they are not thinking about how it all relates back to Dexter himself.

It's becoming cool for a lot of people to bitch and moan about the show and rant about how the writers suck so hard and how they would do it better. If you're such a good writer, go out there and write a better show and get it produced.

Until you've done that or at least tried you're just another arm chair producer internet prick blowing smoke out your ass and thinking you are smarter than everyone else.

  8. @anonymous 12:35 - Part of the fun of watching Dexter is trying to predict what's going to happen. Ever since the 2nd episode, the theory has been out there and clues have been given by the writers. My wife and I are so caught up in the show that we have 45 minute conversations after each episode to discuss what we think is going to happen.

Having watched the show since the start, you do become tuned in with the show's writers and know by now that anything is possible. In no way do I expect the reveal of Gellar's death to be the "Oh My God!" moment of the season...that would be an insult to Dexter viewers. As far as I'm concerned, the only person that should be surprised by that reveal is Dexter himself. The majority of viewers have been in on it for awhile now...and that's ok, the best I'm sure is yet to come!

just how I feel about it. The only person who is supposed to be surprised by Gellar not being real is Dexter.

  10. we are the watchers, seeing Dexter live his life and Dexter, the character, is living it. It's hard to see things when you are living them, but afterward you go "oh man!! I should have seen that coming" and so, we had clues and some of us picked up on them and some didn't ..the fun is in the watching not the knowing.

  11. There are 3 episodes left, this is not the big revelation of the season, Dexter is in a espiritual debacle, so this event with Travis; must alert him to becoming insane, there's not just Harry in his head, there's Brian too, so that's what I think is the real deal in this season, an ilumination, no religious but racional. There's something about the geek I think his going to find something about Dexter, Jonah is a loose end I think is going to have consecuences in the future.

  12. Possibilities: Brian shows up again (cool), Louis somehow becomes the real threat and is in the police department for more than just gathering information for his game (he's been on Dexter's nuts from the beginning), Louis is actually working with the "Gellar" side of Travis, Jonah comes back (doubt it), to me Travis doesn't even feel like the main villain of the story almost a distraction for something greater to happen. Hopefully i'm right, i wouldn't be too happy if it turns out to be just Travis vs Dexter.

  13. I'm Thinking Louis Is Rudy's Son just throwing that out there..

  14. Whoa Im surprissed how close the results are in the poll! Thats pretty coo! I was somewhat surprised with the reveal. I saw the clues but wasnt convinced b/c of other scenes. Then after reading some post on here I went back to maybe Gellar is a dark passenger but wasnt all the way sold on the idea. So, when the reveal showed up my response was: whoa, I guess you were dead. Its def been a great and fun season!

I think I get what you mean, a true prediction is to fortell of something/event/result in advance with out any knowlegde. So does that mean ppl should of predicted that Gellar was dead in the very first scene (of E1) that we see him and Travis? and it cant be a prediction with the hints and clues that were given. So, Anony Nov.29 1:38pm I understand that too cause alot of us started to play with the theory after we saw E2 and the clues. Idk maybe there are degrees of predictions? Either way its been a blast for us (fans) this season and cant wait for the last 3 episodes!

  15. It was certainly unpredictable for me. but I saw some youtube videos which were shot before the episode and guys and gals did suggest that Gellar might be not real.

I also saw Scott Buck talking about it and that one was more surprising for me: nearly all cast and crew (except for some special guys of course) didn't know that Gellar isn't real and Colin Hanks is one of them who was not aware of it till the episode 9.

I think the producers are the ones who make Dexter the today's Dexter.

  16. I love endless conversation about my favorite shows. But I found that this season with Dexter it was simply just more fun to sit back and take the ride with him. It make the show fun again. I'm excited again. Now I get to look forward to those "OMG" moments again instead of spoiling it for myself. Just throwing it out there. Take a 1 hour vacation and let Dexter entertain you. You might be surprised.

  17. I thought it was predictable because of all the clues and such. They made it painfully obvious and I was gonna get up and cheer if it turned out he wasn't dead. I think that isn't the big reveal of the year though. But you know something, it's not fair if someone says this season is predictable since you obviously read a Dexter spoiler site on a continuous basis and half the predictions you make in these comments are wrong.

  18. I stay away from spoiler sites...my insight into this show comes from conversations with a fellow Dexter lover. The show itself is a glorified murder mystery. The twist is that the murderer will likely be killed by another murderer. Regardless, it’s so much fun to speculate and make predictions about where the show is headed. Rarely are we ever 100% right…but sometimes we’re close. Regarding Gellar’s existence, yes, we discussed the fact that he’s probably not real but was alive at some point. However, when we thought about this “twist”, never does it play into the overall series arc to any great degree. It simply makes you draw parallels between Dexter and Travis and ask some “what if” questions. As such, I’ve always treated this as more of a major revelation for Dexter himself, not me the viewer. In fact, I believe the writers had enough respect for the viewers/fans that they knew the “die hards” would likely figure out Gellar well before season 9 and that watching Dexter help Travis would be more of a frustration for viewers. I found myself wanting to yell at him through the TV, “Gellar’s not real!!”…but that reminded me of watching Dora the Explorer with my niece..so I refrained.

My point is, actors want on this show because of the writing. The writers respect the audience and no that they expect big twists and game changers. The fact that you’re feeling miffed about the Gellar reveal “taking too long” etc… means the writers are doing their job and setting you up for something even bigger. It’s slight of hand at its best!

Sit back and enjoy…look at the little things in the show. Good writers don’t leave them there by fluke. Louis is big time on my radar right now!

  19. I agree Anon Dec 1 10:03….Dexter will be kicking himself for not killing Travis. Twice now he has tried to follow Brother Sam’s advice…look where it has gotten him. I think we’re about to see a very angry Dexter in the final 3 episodes.

As for Louis…it’s getting hard not to suspect him in regards to the DDK killings as well. I have absolutely no idea how he would be connected, but the clues are leading in that direction. The four horsemen tableau brought back memories of the ice truck killer in regards to the drained body parts. And the Bowls of Wrath tableau had Dexter saying, “Looks like Gellar is taking another page out of my brother’s playbook.” Now we have Louis giving Dexter a search engine that likely tracks Dexter’s search history. He also idolizes the guy…which is a little bizarre. Plus, why is a game developer interning in a homicide department? Are we really to believe that he’s simply doing research for a new game? I’ve read that people think Louis is related to Brian/Dexter. I guess anything is possible….but this whole plot line is very intriguing.

  20. -Spoiler-

RYAN IS COMING BACK IN THE NEXT TWO EPISODES IN A CRAZY WAY!

  21. I think the wiseguys who kept touting their Fight Club theory on FB and IMDb influenced a lot of minds. Otherwise I doubt almost 50% would have predicted the twist so easily. Power of the Internet.

  22. Obviously predictable. People saying the contrary should watch the show, for real...

  23. I spotted it early on when no one paid any attention to gellar when him and travis were togeather.

  24. So predictable and lame which saddenes me greatly since Dexter is my all time favorite show! I hope the next two seasons aer much better!

  25. I read predictions that Gellar was dead, and began to accept that theory as more evidence was shown in each episode, but if it was that obvious from the start, they really should have at least made the reveal better.
Imagine if instead, we saw Dexter bound and gagged, being tormented by gellar. Suddenly we'd be seeing Gellar and Dexter alone, interacting. After the shock of a living Gellar had set in, it would have been revealed that Travis actually has Dexter captive, and we're seeing the scene from his point of view, when he happens to be in "Gellar-mode". THAT would have left the audience a little less cocky and a little more shocked.

  26. Surprising for me , excellent plot twist, has made the season for me. Can't wait to see whats in store. People saying it was predictable , I would say half of them are lying. There has never been a plot twist like that in Dexter so there was no reason to think there was unless you have to much time on your hands. At the end of the day just sit back , relax and enjoy the man we call Dexter do what he does best :)
