The second episode of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is now available on Paramount+, and it delivered quite a few surprises for fans. One of the most memorable actually came in a rather unexpected moment, bringing back something iconic from the original series: Dexter's boat.

While some fans may have already spotted the vessel in two brief shots from the full official Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 trailer released during the franchise's 20th anniversary day, one important detail had been carefully edited out. That detail was finally revealed halfway through Episode 2, titled "Fallen," and it had a very familiar name.

As it turns out, Dexter's new boat carries the name Slice of Life, just like his old vessel from the OG series, complete with the exact same font. There's one small but important difference, though. Since this is a new boat and a new beginning, the name actually comes with an extra word: "Too."

That's right. Dexter's new vessel is called "Slice of Life Too," a playful callback to the boat he owned for years in the original series, before it was destroyed when our favorite antihero steered it into the eye of Hurricane Laura in the Season 8 finale.

This time, however, the setting is very different. Instead of the humid, mostly warm waters of Miami, Dexter's new boat can be seen cruising around New York City. The music accompanying the scene was also a perfect fit for its new setting. Instead of Benny Moré's "Conocí la Paz," which accompanied Dexter aboard his boat in the OG series, this time around, the song playing in the background was Joe Bataan's "Subway Joe."

It's a heartwarming piece of Dexter's past in an entirely new setting, and it's safe to say the callback worked really well.

How Dexter Morgan Got His New Boat

The moment takes place while Dexter and Charley are in the basement of a property she rented for him, giving him a quiet and convenient place to take care of his victims. "It is the perfect kill room," he tells his former enemy before asking her for one more favor.

He needs a way to get rid of his victims the good old-fashioned way, especially since the incinerator introduced in Season 1 is no longer an option, as the season premiere actually revealed.

The scene then cuts from the basement to Dexter driving his new boat, leaving little doubt about who helped make it happen. We have Charley Brown to thank for this one, and honestly, who would have expected that back in Season 1?

Of course, some viewers may find it a little... unrealistic that Dexter and Charley managed to find a vessel so similar to the one from the main series and have it fitted with matching decals so quickly. That said, money definitely wasn't an issue. As Leon Prater's former right-hand woman revealed, she has access to a significant part of the late billionaire's fortune.

Even if the whole process happened a little too quickly, it's hard to complain about the result. With the franchise celebrating its 20th anniversary, seeing Dexter himself all smiles as he takes his new boat out for a ride was a lovely moment especially for longtime fans.

And... who knows? As the season progresses, we could see even more familiar elements and unexpected callbacks to the original Dexter series.
