As the promotional campaign for Dexter: Resurrection begins to wind down, a new interview with two of the show's stars has offered fans a few interesting behind-the-scenes insights.
David Zayas and Dominic Fumusa appeared on CBS's morning show on November 3 as part of Between Us, an interview series that brings together two people from the same profession and lets them interview each other in a relaxed, conversational setting. This time, the two actors got to turn the questions on each other, discussing their experiences on Dexter: Resurrection as well as aspects of their personal lives.
Zayas, who plays Angel Batista, and Fumusa, who portrays Melvin Oliva, shared some very interesting stories, including what actually makes being part of Dexter: Resurrection so special.
David Zayas Says No Other Character Has Been as Close to His Heart as Batista
One of the most interesting things Zayas revealed was that Batista is the longest-running character he has ever played. He also said that no other character has been as close to his heart, making his return to the franchise even more meaningful.
The actor compared returning to the Dexter to being invited to a family Thanksgiving dinner, explaining that he welcomes every opportunity to come back.
He also discussed how natural it felt to step back into Batista's shoes after four years away from the character. Zayas compared the experience to riding a bike, saying it felt almost as though he had last worked on Batista the previous week.
Dominic Fumusa Actually Felt the Pressure of Joining a 20-Year-Old Franchise
Fumusa, meanwhile, reflected on joining a franchise with such a long history and a big, devoted fanbase. He admitted that he felt some pressure because he didn't want to mess things up, but he also had a lot of praise for the people behind the camera. The actor described Dexter as one of the kindest and most creative sets he has worked on.
He also talked about the contrasting personalities of his character, Melvin Oliva, and Kadia Saraf's Detective Wallace. Fumusa praised Saraf's intelligence, and ability to see things from different perspectives, explaining why he believes the two characters make such an interetsing pairing.
Why David Zayas Had to Make New York Feel Unfamiliar to Batista
Another interesting detail came when Zayas discussed filming in New York City. Despite being familiar with the city since he actually lives there for many years, he had to leave that familiarity aside when portraying Batista.
Since his character comes from Florida, Zayas wanted New York to feel unfamiliar and somewhat uncomfortable as Batista himself adjusted to his new surroundings that are so different from Miami.
A few other topics also came up during the conversation, including more about the actors' experiences and personal lives. You can watch the full interview below.
