We might already have our first Dexter Easter egg in Grand Theft Auto VI, thanks to a surprising detail spotted in the latest extended look video.
After a long wait, Rockstar Games has finally released an exciting extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI, the highly anticipated next entry in one of the biggest video game franchises ever made.
Keen-eyed viewers watching the newly released 26-minute extended look believe they have spotted a huge pop-culture Easter egg. And that is Dexter Morgan’s iconic Miami apartment building.
Since GTA 6 is set primarily in Vice City, Rockstar’s fictional take on Miami, Dexter fans have been wondering for years whether the game could actually include references to the show, which turns 20 years old this October.
Now, it appears we may have our first potential Dexter Easter egg, and the highly anticipated game which is scheduled to launch on November 19 hasn’t even been released yet.
The Evidence in the Extended Look
The building can actually be spotted at around the 18:49 mark, as one of the game’s main characters, Lucia Caminos, parachutes from the rooftop of a very tall building.
At first glance, the resemblance may not be immediately obvious. However, once you compare the building with the real-life Miami condo located at 1155 103rd Street in Bay Harbor Islands, Miami Beach, which served as Dexter Morgan’s apartment exterior, the similarities become much more interesting.
The overall shape of the building appears to be nearly identical, with the exact number of floors, while even the surrounding grass and outdoor area seem to have a striking resemblance to the real-life location. Notably, the possible reference was also spotted and mentioned by Discussing Film, one of the most well-known entertainment accounts online, and that alone adds even more attention to this.
GTA Has Already Included a Dexter Reference
If this does turn out to be a deliberate Dexter Easter egg, it wouldn’t actually be the first time the franchise has appeared in a Grand Theft Auto game. GTA V previously included many Dexter references.
This time, however, the possibilities are much bigger. The original Dexter series was set in Miami for all eight seasons, giving Rockstar countless opportunities to hide references to locations, characters, or other elements from the series throughout the huge game world. And with Dexter more popular than ever following the spinoffs and memes, some Easter eggs would absolutely make sense, and honestly the possibilities are countless.
Coincidence or... Deliberate Easter Egg?
Of course, Rockstar has not confirmed that this is intended to be a Dexter reference, so for now, it actually remains an intriguing Easter egg spotted by fans.
