This is the first glimpse of the beloved actor in character as Batista on the set of the sequel.
Production for Dexter: Resurrection enters its 18th week today in New York City, marking a pivotal moment as filming nears completion.
Over the past several weeks, fans have been treated to an exciting wave of behind-the-scenes photos featuring the series’ core cast and special guest stars. These sneak peeks, taken across multiple NYC filming locations, have only fueled the anticipation surrounding this dark and thrilling new chapter.
Among the returning fan-favorites is David Zayas, who reprises his iconic role as Angel Batista. His confirmed return has sparked speculation—and hope—for a long-awaited confrontation between Batista and Dexter Morgan. Unlike his brief appearance in Dexter: New Blood, Zayas is now a series regular, promising a much more substantial presence this time around.
While we've already caught glimpses of Zayas on set and in an official promotional image released by Showtime, today's update brings something even more exciting: brand-new photos of David Zayas filming an actual scene as Angel Batista on the rain-soaked streets of New York City. These images mark the first time we see him fully in character during active production.
In the newly surfaced photos, Batista is seen walking outside a NYC subway station on a particularly rainy day. Holding a black umbrella in one hand and a phone on speaker in the other, he appears deeply immersed in a dramatic moment. And yes—the signature fedora is back, now in sleek black to match the New York aesthetic, replacing the familiar Miami sun-drenched version.
Adding even more intrigue, David Zayas Jr., the actor’s real-life son, was also spotted on set. Photographed inside the subway station by celebrity photographer Jose Perez (Bauer-Griffin), Zayas Jr. wore the same signature fedora, strongly hinting that he's once again serving as his father’s stunt double, just like he did in the original Dexter series.
The photos, taken on May 14, also show David Zayas alongside Monica Raymund, who is directing the episode. Based on the production timeline, it's likely that these scenes are for Episode 8 or 9 of the upcoming season.
