Dexter: Original Sin Finale – Deleted Scene of Brian Moser’s Final Moment Was Filmed but Cut Last Minute!

The final scene of Brian Moser—one we never actually saw. But why?

The highly anticipated prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, takes viewers 15 years before the events of the original show, introducing fresh storylines and unexpected twists. One of the biggest surprises was the early introduction of young adult Brian Moser—something few fans saw coming.

Brian Moser’s Flashback and Present Timeline Appearances

Just like Dexter, the prequel also features a younger Brian in flashback sequences set in the early 1970s, specifically between 1972 and 1974. These scenes primarily explore the complex relationship between Harry and Laura Moser, leading up to the fateful moment when Laura was left in a cargo container. Meanwhile, in the show’s present timeline (1991), an older Brian Moser emerges.

Biney, as young Dexter used to call him, first appears in Episode 2 through a hidden cameo. He is spotted among a crowd observing a crime scene he orchestrated. Later in the episode, he approaches Dexter at a nearby restaurant, asking if he is expecting company—a desperate attempt to reconnect with his long-lost brother, who, to Brian’s dismay (and Harry's relief), has no recollection of him.

Confirming Brian’s Identity and His Role in the Season

For weeks, fan theories swirled about this mysterious figure, but it wasn’t until Episode 8 that his identity was officially confirmed—Brian Moser, played by Roby Attal.

Episodes 9 and 10 further develop his character, giving him more screen time and revealing his motivations. Consumed by a desire for revenge, Brian—dubbed the NHI Killer by Miami Metro due to his unknown identity—targets individuals who wronged him in his past.

One of the most chilling moments of the season is Brian’s brutal murder of Barb, the social worker who separated him from Dexter after Harry and Doris deemed him unfit for their family. The way Barb was killed mirrored Laura Moser’s death, sending a clear message to Harry, who immediately suspected Brian was behind it.

The Climactic Ending and a Deleted Scene

Episode 10 culminates in a dramatic confrontation between Brian and Harry. In the final scene, Brian is seen watching from outside as Dexter, Deb, and Harry share a joyful dance. His envious gaze lingers as the season fades to black, leaving fans with an ominous cliffhanger.

However, in a post-season interview, showrunner Clyde Phillips revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that this wasn’t originally intended to be Brian’s final moment. A deleted scene featured Brian holding a passport, stepping into a cab, and leaving—implying that he accepted Harry’s plea to stay away from Dexter.

Phillips explained the reasoning behind the edit:

“At one time, it was written and shot that we’d see Brian looking in on them with a passport in his hand, getting into a cab and driving away. But as we were editing, things changed. The show is alive until it airs because we’re always refining it. The final dance scene was so powerful—it made the cliffhanger even stronger.”

What’s Next for Brian Moser?

The removal of the cab scene suggests a shift in the show’s direction. Could this mean Brian’s story isn’t over? Will he return in a potential second season?

When asked about the possibility, Phillips responded:

“I honestly don’t know. I’m busy shooting Resurrection now and haven’t been thinking about the next season of Original Sin. We’ll see.”

With such an intense setup, fans are left eagerly anticipating what’s next. Will Brian Moser continue to haunt Dexter’s life, or was this truly his last appearance? Only time will tell.
