Take a special behind-the-scenes look at Episode 3 of Dexter: Original Sin!
It’s Christmas Eve, and earlier today, Showtime unveiled the "postmortem" behind-the-scenes featurette for Episode 3 of Dexter: Original Sin, titled "Miami Vice."
This video offers a deeper dive into the making of Episode 103, showcasing bloopers and fun moments with the cast. It also features interviews with cast members Patrick Gibson, Christian Slater, and Christina Milian, along with insights from crew members Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds.
Christian Slater on Christina Milian’s First Scene
“Christina Milian is incredible. It was such a joy working with her, especially during those tense moments of suspicion between Harry and LaGuerta. She brought her A-game and was absolutely amazing. Honestly, I think she’s the perfect LaGuerta. I feel so fortunate to work alongside someone as talented and delightful as she is.
The vibe on set has been fantastic. It’s funny—when you’re working on dark shows, especially ones about serial killers and murderers, the atmosphere behind the scenes tends to be surprisingly lighthearted. I think it’s because you have to find ways to keep the mood up, and this cast has been great at doing that.”
Christina Milian on the Atmosphere on Set
“We joke around so much, and everyone is incredibly humble, cool, and kind. Patrick will give it to me straight during a scene, but right after, we’re chatting about our kids. There are moments where I have to pinch myself and think, ‘Stay calm, you belong here.’ But it’s tough—it’s really tough.”
Milian on LaGuerta’s Introduction Scene
“Whoo, what a scene! I thought I’d be super nervous, but I ended up having so much fun. This is Maria’s big introduction. At first, it’s all hubba hubba—she walks in, and the initial reaction from the men is more about her looks than her presence.
But Maria is used to that. She knows how to brush it off and stand her ground. She’s strong, confident, and unapologetic, which can be intimidating. Delivering that speech, I had to stay in the moment and not get distracted by the fact that Patrick Dempsey was right there. And let’s be honest—that’s hard. I mean, he’s Mr. McDreamy! Those blue eyes, ladies!”
Clyde Phillips on Dexter’s Second Kill
“Paddy was ready. He studied the show, he studied Michael, but we didn’t want him to be Michael. We wanted him to channel the essence of Michael in his own way—as a kind of first edition.”
Scott Reynolds on Patrick Gibson’s Casting
“There’s just something about Paddy. It’s in his eyes, the way he tilts his head—there’s this old-school Dexter energy that feels completely natural. It wasn’t rehearsed or forced; it was pure magic.”
Patrick Gibson on the Kill Room Setting
“Setting up a kill room in the middle of a highlight court, with a full stadium right next door, was surreal. And leaving those beautiful pink alligator shoes on? Oh, man, that was the icing on the cake.”
