Spoiler alert: smoking was permitted at Miami Metro P.D. in 1991!
Dexter: Original Sin—the highly anticipated prequel series set in 1991 Miami—is just 35 days away from its premiere. As the debut draws near, expect even more exciting updates. Currently, the cast is wrapping up filming on the season one finale, written by showrunner Clyde Phillips. Production is mostly taking place at CBS Radford Studios in Los Angeles, with some scenes shot on location.
Filming is scheduled to conclude by the end of the month, though some main cast members have finished their scenes early due to shorter story arcs in episode 10. For example, James Martinez, who plays a younger Angel Batista, wrapped filming days ago. Martinez posted a heartfelt message on Instagram on Tuesday, bidding farewell to his castmates and expressing gratitude to David Zayas for his guidance.
Another early wrap was Molly Brown, who portrays a teenage Debra Morgan, one of the most pivotal characters from the original series. She finished her scenes for Dexter: Original Sin earlier this week.
Reno Wilson, who plays Miami Metro detective Bobby Watt—a close friend of Harry Morgan—gave fans a sneak peek behind the scenes earlier today. Sharing a few images from the set, Wilson expressed his excitement about his role in the show, which has been in production since June.
Keep scrolling to see all the behind-the-scenes photos he shared, captioned, “I don’t smoke IRL, but Bobby Watt did in the 90s because it was okay to smoke at work back then!” Smoking was a big part of early '90s culture, and workplace smoking restrictions were far more relaxed. So get ready to see plenty of Dexter: Original Sin characters lighting up in this new installment!
One of the images Wilson shared captures James Martinez, Patrick Gibson, and director Michael Lehmann behind the scenes on the Miami Metro set. Lehmann is directing six of the season's ten episodes.
