Latest From Watch With Kristin - Spoilers About the New Character

Latest from E!Online's 'Watch with Kristin'. Click the link below to read more info about the new female character 'Hannah' who joins Dexter!

David in Smithtown, N.Y.: You never give us any Dexter spoilers! Rude much?
We'll ignore the tone of your question, young man, and provide you with what you desire: Look for a recurring character named Hannah to join the show who's described as sexy, dangerous and a force of nature. She's got quite the past but is trying to put it behind her…until she meets Dexter. We're thinking she's going to have quite the affect on our resident serial killer considering there's a strong possibility Hannah will appear in season eight as well.

  1. I think she'll be introduced as Harrison's babysitter and thereby learning a lot about Dexter.

Or she could be Lewis's girlfriend(also probably a serial killer) who would take revenge from Dexter in Season 8 after Dexter kills Lewis in the Upcoming season.

I like the revenge idea but I'm still hoping Lewis is killed off early on because he's boring. I doubt he'd make a good villain, they already gave us a wimpy one in season 6.

As long as it's not another love interest for Dexter I don't care.

  3. Oh no... Don't give us "Lumen no.2" :( Seriously, I'm at the point I find the whole Dexter/Debra plot totally brilliant and if Dexter is supposed to have one more love interest, I want her to be Debra, not a new quirky character...

It has been told by some of the writers (sry, can't remember which one) before, that Dexter has already met the woman he'll never forget (Rita), the woman he "loved" as much as he can (Lumen) and NOW, he's supposed to be with "the one".

I strongly hope that his new love affair will (eventually) be Debra, but since Hannah is supposed to mess around until the very end, I'm very affraid that it's going to be her... :(

    1. Hannah sounds manipulative. She's gonna get in the way of something solid & real it sounds like to me. Haven't read the books tho.

    2. the series does not follow the books at all. welll the first season is based loosely on the first book, but from there on, its pretty much original such as ***SPOILER** Rita is not dead in the books. There is one instance of a copycat killer in the books which people suspect is Lewis' role in the upcoming season.

  4. Moony,

I just can't believe the writers would go there, that the producers would go there, or that anyone involved with this show would be dumb enough to introduce a new love interest in the last two years. It would kill everything that has been built. I have to believe that this character is meant for something else.

If this is a new love interest for Dexter, and they back away from the storyline they just started, and that we have invested in for SIX YEARS, because what? A few dozen whiners? Nah... they wouldn't do that.

I loved what Vince Gilligan said in a recent interview. You let the characters do the writing for you, they will take the story where it needs to go. This is totally true. We've been taken on this journey by Dexter and Debra, and it has reached this point, and it needs to go the rest of the way. The show opened with "if I could have feelings for anyone..." and that is where we have been going all this time. Any new love "interest" at this point would be abandoning the whole basis of the show to begin with, it would be a response to the ranting of a small group of fans, and not just "any" fans mind, you, but the stupidest, most uneducated, most clueless portion of any fanbase of any show I have ever encountered. Doing something like that would be a disaster of such epic proportions that any and all credibility for this show be destroyed for all time.

I refuse to believe that any producer/writer or any member of the showtime network would pull something like that. It would be like HBO deciding write a storyline with Walt going back to work for Gray Matter's and re-kindling his romance with Gretchen in the final two half seasons of BrBa. Huh? Sorry, the territory has already been covered and used as "background" for the character. We are in a whole different place now.

  5. Z_Man - You HAD to address that snide comment to Moony? Not cool.

    1. That comment makes very little sense. Who is Z_Man and why is that a snide comment directed towards Moony? Looks to me more like 12:06 was addressing Moony as one of the more 'intelligent' posters.

I agree. It was pretty plain to me that 12:06 was also in agreement with Moony and being complimentary of what Moony said. It is also plain to me that 2:02 is obsessed with someone?

    3. Possibly. I haven't the faintest of who Z_Man is and no one here has referred to themselves as Z_Man, so...

    4. Z_Man is a guy who became obsessed with the incest idea and commented alot on the message boards of the Dexter site on the Showtime site... he is no one!

  6. Maybe a Moriarty to Dexter's Sherlock?

  7. A biological sister for Dexter perhaps? Perhaps Hannah will fill the sister role, soon to be vacated by Deb as she repurposes herself as his lover/track coverer...

Maybe Laura Moser had twins which she had to put up for adoption. Maybe the twins were called Hannah and Louis, and they've traced their family history using Louis's computer skills, only to find that serial killing somewhat runs in the family.. so they come to try and get in on the act by inserting themselves into Dexter's life.

Also, @12:06, I completely agree with everything you've said.

  8. It does sound like a new love interest. I'm guessing Dexter/Debra won't have any progression?

    ReplyDelete
  9. It says she has a dangerous past that she tried to put behind her until she meets Dexter. Dexter kills. Maybe she joins him on staking out the bad guys OR she steals some of his potential kills for herself. Deb doesn't like the involvement and the fun *drama* begins (!) Baited breath. I am impatient for a new season!!!

  10. Putting on my "TV" writers cap (not mine, mind you)

Someone who is attracted/interested/obsessed with Dexter but will be hooking up with Quinn/using Quinn - which will be reminiscent of Trinity's daughter and Lila at the same time. Pretty sure CF will be playing her, no?

Poor Quinn... all the women he loves - love Dexter more!

Why do I think this? Because it's revisiting themes, and Dexter is a show that likes to revisit themes/situations.

Last year "Deb walks in, doesn't look behind the glass..." This year "Deb walks in looks behind the glass..."

No doubt this woman may serve as a catalyst to motivate Deb to make her move. They aren't going to put Dex and Deb together right off the bat, no drama in it. They have to play out the story and get the audience involved and hanging in for the "will they won't they" effect. We'll see Deb's poor broken heart, and Dexter doing his same old oblivious routine despite the fact that Deb is sacrificing her soul by not turning him in, and yet he "still" is too stupid to get what he has. By then the audience will be getting irritated with this new girl, and she will be even creepier than Lila and will have even the silly naysayers going "Oh MAN! Dexter needs to be with Deb, not that crazy evil bitch who is going to screw him over and send him off to the electric chair!"

I don't like it, it's not bold and it smacks of formula TV, but probably what they will do and do halfway decent.

    Call me cynical tonight. ;)

  11. yeah i agree with previous posts im thinking serial killer that steals some of his glory! leave dex/deb alone, let it go where it goes. agree with anon 03.24 though, she will be used to push them together.

  12. I hope so 3:24. I'm just worried the writes won't be brave enough to continue the Dex/Deb relationship after all the critiscism.

Hey listen. One of my early lessons in "subjective criticism" was a movie called "The Big Lebowski" that for some reason, picked up bad press. There was a lot of infighting between Coen brother's fans and critics. One portion was "this sucks, they screwed up" another portion was like "no this is the best ever".

Whenever you have a "spouting off" contingent of an audience that goes off on an idea just on "the surface" but you have another contingent that really loves an idea you put forth as an artist, that means you have done something truly remarkable, it's not just good, it's "great". Because every great idea or concept in art WILL be soundly criticized. If it is, it is almost doomed to eventual mediocrity.

Universally "acclaimed" things, tend to fade. But many ideas that are not "popular" and in fact, even "hated" tend to go crazy! I mean who really watches repeats of "Shakesphere in Love" --- eh? A movie that was totally overrated. Meanwhile, Big Lebowski... well, you know the story, it's classic - it took chances, it got burned and it came through. Who listens to "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morrisette anymore? Anyone? Anyone? It was a popular "flash in the pan" On the other hand, just think about how many people ripped on Bob Dylan's Highway 61, "WHAT!!! Dylan is going electric? NOOOOOOOO!!! He is ruining his music!" Does anyone remember Peter Seger freaking out and trying to unplug Dylan during a live performance? Some people just don't have the vision, the intelligence, or the adaptability to accept bold change and evolution. Think about Radiohead's "Kid A" Radiohead fans and critics were outraged, they whined, they bellyached, they stomped their feat and announced the band had "lost it".

No, you only "lose it" when you stick to safety, when you give the masses what they want and you do not evolve. Dexter and Deb needed to evolve based on artistic necessity, this had to happen for the sake of the art.

You cannot expect an audience to always understand that. You have to be prepared to cut some people loose, or you WILL become a sad parody.

All that you have to do is ask a few questions of the critics of this storyline to understand where they are coming from. For example, their lack of understanding of the show! The single most common protest that I have had to address so many times in conversations with these ranters, (and it still keeps coming up) is that they still believe that Deb and Dex are half-siblings!!! Some of the audience just won't pay attention, or they haven't even seen Season One! You can't write or respond to fans with opinions like that. It's hopeless.

You do what you do, because you believe it, and you do not "throw bones". You move on, and you occasionally reference the past by playing a greatest hit, but you still move on.

    1. Yes, I agree that going back on Dex/Deb is incredibly stupid and an insult to the show if they were to jump back on it now, but I must say there's been a lot of strawman argument going on between both sections of the fanbase. Most of the people against the storyline are just genuinely stupid and don't follow the show, but some of them raise some very valid points and can be very civil.

Just the same, people say that those who support the storyline want to screw their siblings, but I've talked to some people who support the storyline and they raise even better points and often come across as well-mannered and unnecessarily maligned by the stupid portion of the people who dislike the storyline. But the supporters often seem to know the source material so much better than their opposition that if one were to look at the quality of the posts, the Deb/Dex supporters would win every time.

It's a lot like Natural Selection, this: the stupid die. LOL

So far, I think I have seen a very select few "anti foster sibling romance" posts that have been respectful, well thought out, and sensible, and the poster proved to me that they really had a working knowledge of the show and the characters. And even then, it's main working theory was completely based on "because their love would remain truer as siblings" and because "if they had romantic problems it would destroy their friendship". But that sounds like real life eh? We only have two years left of the show, so in those 24 episodes the likelyhood of having to deal with "romantic" problems in a story arc is silly because of the much much much bigger fish to fry, right? :)

But most of the arguments are pretty strange, and some of the most fervent come from crazy middle aged women who have a super big crush on MCH and see Jennifer Carpenter as a "romantic rival" or threat ROFLMA! It's way way scary, but also sad and pathetic. :(

    3. Although the story line has to keep audiences on there toes, doesn't anyone think it's a little weird that it is his sister? Great show throught the seasons with terrific story lines but find it creepy the whole Deb/Dexter relationship.

Do you find it creepy that Dexter is a serial killer? Well, yea, but it's a story, it's the suspension of disbelief. Incest is at least ten times less creepy than serial killing. But wait, that's not all. It's not actual "real" incest, because real incest cannot occur between two people who have no blood relation to each other. So by now we are in morally ambiguous territory - it's a "gray area" topic, like abortion, homosexuality, and so on. It's all matter of "personal" religious or moral belief. Take all that aside, and then finally we go back to. "It's only happening in a story!"

So yes, you may personally be uncomfortable with it, just as I may not like something else that occurred in the show. BUT it is an "R" rated show, and has been clearly defined as a show that is "not for the squeamish". So the minor things that happen that we morally disagree with, each of us needs to get past.

    Imagine this:

Lopez has told Anderson and Jackson they will be paid to smuggle ten kilo's of heroine across the border, but it's ok, because most of the profit is going for a "good cause". He has also been hinting along the way that they might make some nice extra bonus cash to take a few ounces of fake weed along as well. Jackson go the hint, but it totally went over Anderson's head. Then Lopez finally comes out and lays it on them in clear terms. "Hey, take this weed along with as well. And oh, but the way it's not REAL weed, it's sage!" Jackson shrugs "No big deal." But Anderson has a meltdown, throws a temper tantrum and says "No way man, that is WRONG, I ain't smuggling no sage with this heroine!"

In this story, Lopez is the writer/producer of Dexter, Anderson and Jackson are two members of the audience. The Jackson's among as are looking at the Anderson with a "WTF" expression. So now Anderson is mucking up the deal and having a tantrum and trying to fuck Jackson out of the bonus he has been looking forward to, because he is ok with heroine, but is feeling 'queasy' about the sage that resembles weed.

As the "Jackson" in this story. I am hoping that Lopez is just going to either tell Anderson to get lost so I can do the job on my own and collect the bonus. I am also thinking, "Why did I get stuck having to do this job with this uptight asshole!" And if I see Lopez start to waver, then the agitation with Anderson really kicks in. I mean Anderson's bellyaching is bad enough, but if I see that he is threatening my deal, I am no longer amused. Probably want to shiv him or run him over with a truck so the $$$$$$ can be collected.

Oh god, I've been watching a lot of BrBa lately, can you tell?

  15. Why do so many of you dislike Lumen? I wish she would make a special guest appearance in an episode or two. Lumen made it easy to put yourself in her place. Anyways, I could relate to Lumen, she was a great character.

Serial killers who torture and hurt innocent people are creepy. Serial killers like Dexter are hero's. It's called Karma.
