HBO picks up new series from 'Dexter' writer

Former "Dexter" showrunner Clyde Phillips is back and ready to get more blood on his hands. After winning a bidding war among cable networks, HBO has confirmed that it's picking up a new crime drama from Phillips and Lionsgate TV.
Based on the Israeli series "The Naked Truth," the show takes place in a major East Coast precinct, where police officers are investigating the disappearance of a teenage girl from a prominant family. The story will explore how this high-profile case effects the victim's family as well as the city's political infrastructure.
"It's about the cops encountering people on the worst day of the citizens' life," Phillips told Deadline, which broke the story Tuesday morning. "It's a bit of an exploration of the middle class and the challenges we all face; it's a heartbreaking story about a family in a time of crisis and how everyone deals with it."
Phillips also compared the series to "ER" in that it will be set mostly indoors, focusing on character and dialogue more than action. "I can't wait to write those powerful and challenging scenes," he told Deadline. "It's all just character, character, character."

Dexter - Episode 5.05 "First Blood" - Recap

We opened this episode with, quite literally, the smallest of Dexter's woes: Harrison. Despite his son getting a clean bill of mental health in a previous episode, Dexter once again found himself worried after Harrison caused playtime havoc (term used relative to children sitting under a rainbow parachute at mommy-and-me classes). Since Rita's death, Dexter has become an expert in over-analyzing Harrison's actions, so naturally he turned a simple act of toddler misbehavior -- Harrison scratched another kid on the cheek -- into premeditated assault and a sign of darker things to come.

Shawn Hatosy (Boyd Fawler) talks about Dexter

Earlier this week, Hatosy phoned Movieline to discuss his thrilling arc on Dexter, explain why being strapped down to a table underneath Michael C. Hall may have been the high point of his career and talk about his real-life gang run-in while filming Southland.

''Boyd Fowler is such a phenomenally complex character. How much of a character history were you given by Dexter’s writers?
Let’s see here…nothing. I got a call from my agent basically saying that the producers wanted to talk to me about a part, which was thrilling. So they put me on the phone with Chip Johannessen and he kind of explained what Boyd was and that it would be a bit of a cat and mouse thing going on between he and Dexter.

Dexter - Episode 5.04 ''Beauty and the Beast'' - Recap

At the end of the last episode she was just a pair of panicked brown eyes, deranged with fear and peering out from behind a tiny glass window as Dexter stabbed his latest victim, Boyd Fowler, in the heart with a kitchen knife. But now she has a name, Lumen Anne Pierce. And a thinly sketched but mesmerizing backstory involving a mother who understands why Lumen had to leave their home in Minnesota, but wants her to come home because, yes, her father does bad things he won’t ever apologize for, but he doesn’t really mean them. And that’s the lighter side of this girl’s past. “Boyd wasn’t the only one who did this to me,” she tells Dexter at the close of the episode. “There were others. It’s not over.”

New Julie Benz Interview

Julie Benz talked on craveonline.com about the new TV show she stars ''No Ordinary Family'', and Dexter.

''Poor Julie Benz. Not only she get (*spoiler alert*) dramatically killed off Dexter, she had to go back to film the beginning of season five as a dead body in the bathtub. At least she got a new show right away. On No Ordinary Family, she plays a working mom whose family all get super powers. She must have had the super power of wardrobe changing because she had an all new sexy red carpet gown after her afternoon press conference for the Television Critics Association.''

We love Julia Stiles. And we love Julia Stiles on Dexter. So as much as you're going to want to hate the new lady in Dexter's life, we promise it's safe to give this new girl a chance! Dexter - Episode 5.03 ''Practically Perfect'' - Recap

We open with Deb Morgan intensely interviewing potential nannies for her brother Dexter’s son Harrison. The first few are less than stellar, to say the least. Finally, there seems to be a ray of light; an Irish woman with a nursing degree with an emphasis on infant/toddler growth and development, who formerly worked at a hospital until her ward was downsized. She picks Harrison (she calls him “Prince Harry”) up and he is immediately all smiles. As soon as she leaves, Dexter knows that she’s the one.
