It looks like Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is going to introduce something new for the duo of NYPD detectives.

The first season of Dexter: Resurrection introduced viewers to several new characters, with the series taking the franchise to an entirely new location, New York City.
Among them are two NYPD officers who became recurring characters throughout the season: (the now Sergeant) Melvin Oliva and Detective Claudette Wallace.
Portrayed by Dominic Fumusa and Kadia Saraf, respectively, the two detectives actually played significant roles in Season 1, with their characters becoming directly involved in some of the season's major events. And while their personalities didn't always seem to match during the first 10 episodes, their relationship is about to evolve in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
In a recent press interview featuring Fumusa and Saraf, shared on Trey Mangum's YouTube channel, the two actors teased what's coming next for their characters. Based on their comments, the partnership between Wallace and Oliva could become much deeper this season, potentially moving beyond their professional relationship.
Season 2 Will Take Wallace and Oliva's Relationship to the Next Level
During the brief interview, Saraf discussed how the relationship between Wallace and Oliva will develop, hinting that a romance between the two colleagues could be on the cards.
"It evolves as Claudette and Oliva feel more comfortable with each other, trust each other more. I mean, there's the element of time and space that adds to that relationship," she explained.
Fumusa added that their relationship "just continues to grow," before actually teasing an even deeper connection between the two characters.
"It gets deeper. This is a very personal season for Claudette, for obvious reasons in terms of the New York Ripper," the actor said.
Considering how closely Claudette's storyline is tied to the New York Ripper case, it sounds like Season 2 will give the pair more opportunities to get to know each other on a personal level. Whehter that connection eventually develops into something romantic remains to be seen, but the actors' comments definitely leave the door open.
Melvin Oliva Will Have a Bigger Role in Season 2
There's also another interesting detail in Saraf's comments. In Season 1, Detective Wallace often appeared to be the sharper and more confident member of the pair, with Oliva frequently looking much less smart, and complementing her approach to their work.
However, that dynamic is about to change, as Season 2 will actually give Oliva more opportunities to take the lead.
"You'll see more of Oliva this season, putting his foot down, too," Saraf revealed. "So the first season, it feels like he completes her kind of cadence and sentences and thoughts. And here now there's going to be a little bit more of a taking the lead, which I really love for him."
It's definitely an interesting development for Oliva, who could have a much stronger presence this season. And seeing him take on a more assertive role could also change the way he and Wallace interact, giving their relationship even more... room to develop.
Could Claudette Wallace and Melvin Oliva Actually Become a Couple?
Honestly, looking back at Season 1, the two detectives didn't always seem to enjoy each other's company. Wallace's quirky personality and Oliva's different and sometimes humorous approach to their work made them an unlikely duo.
But with Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 featuring a time jump of around three to four years, a lot could have changed between them during the time we haven't seen on screen.
Their dance to the Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" at Leon Prater's gala in the Season 1 finale might even have been the beginning of something new. While that moment alone doesn't really confirm a romantic connection, the actors' latest comments make the possibility all the more intriguing.
Of course, for a romance to work, the series would also need to explore more of their personal lives. Season 1 didn't have much time to dive into details such as their relationship histories or whether either character has been married or divorced.
With both actors suggesting that their characters' bond will grow deeper in Season 2, it will actually be interesting to see just how far that relationship goes.
What do you think? Could a romance be on the way for Claudette Wallace and Melvin Oliva in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2?
