It looks like Dexter Morgan will be reminiscing about his old Miami days in the upcoming second season.
Paramount+ recently released the first official images from various episodes of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, marking the beginning of the show's marketing campaign. The new stills gave fans their first real look at the highly anticipated season, but one particular photo includes a small detail that many viewers will instantly recognize.
The promotional image, taken from the Season 2 premiere, which is written by Scott Reynolds and Clyde Phillips and directed by Marcos Siega, shows Dexter Morgan inside his basement apartment talking with Blessing Kamara.
At first glance, it actually looks like an ordinary conversation. But if you look a little closer, you'll notice that Dexter has decorated the apartment with something very familiar: blood spatter pattern frames.
The framed bloodstain pattern analysis reference charts hanging on the wall are almost identical to the ones that decorated his forensics office at Miami Metro throughout the original series.
Those charts were always more than simple workplace decorations. Not only they represent Dexter's day job as Miami Metro's blood spatter analyst, but they also carried a much deeper meaning. Dexter was, in a way, born in blood, and that traumatic moment shaped the person he eventually became.
A Small Detail That Actually Says a Lot
Despite the significant time jump in Season 2, Dexter is still living in Blessing's basement apartment as his tenant. Enough time has clearly passed for him to make the place feel more like home, and these familiar charts are a perfect example of that.
Rather than leaving the apartment plain, Dexter has surrounded himself with reminders of a past life that meant far more to him than he probably realizes.
Based on everything Paramount+ has revealed over the past few months, Dexter appears to be going through something of a mid-life crisis this season. Harrison is now an adult with a new career and a life of his own, while Dexter remains in New York City, reportedly still working as a rideshare driver, just as he did in Season 1.
With so much of his old life behind him, it's easy to imagine Dexter looking back at his years in Miami Metro with a sense of nostalgia.
Bringing those blood analysis charts into his apartment is his way of holding on to a huge chapter of his life that, despite everything that happened, was far more stable than the one he's living now.
It's also another clever Easter egg from the team behind Dexter: Resurrection, continuing the franchise's tradition of rewarding (mostly) longtime fans. With Dexter celebrating its 20th anniversary later this year, it's no surprise that Season 2 appears to be packed with nods to the original series, and this is likely just one of many we'll spot across the upcoming 10 episodes.
