It looks like Gareth is shaping up to be a formidable adversary for Dexter Morgan.
Dexter Morgan has officially arrived in New York City, and Dexter: Resurrection is wasting no time throwing new challenges his way. While some of these new characters may prove helpful—like Blessing Kamara, whose assistance in Episodes 2 and 3 was invaluable—others are destined to become major obstacles, both for Dexter and those he holds dear.
One such threat is Gareth, known by his chilling moniker: the Gemini Killer.
Introduced in Episode 4, Call Me Red, Gareth makes his first appearance as the final guest to arrive at Leon Prater’s ominous dinner party. Among a table full of sinister personalities, Gareth stands out—not through words, but through silence. His introverted, quiet demeanor instantly sets him apart, hinting at something far more dangerous lurking beneath the surface.
At first glance, his reserved nature may not seem threatening. But behind that calm exterior lies a dark and ruthless individual—one who just happens to be the FBI’s most wanted serial killer. As of this early point in the season, Dexter hasn’t yet grasped the full extent of who—or what—he’s dealing with. The two exchanged only a few words, but even those brief interactions carry the weight of something brewing just beneath the surface.
David Dastmalchian on Playing Gareth: The Gemini Killer
Just a day after San Diego Comic-Con, actor David Dastmalchian, who portrays Gareth, sat down for a one-on-one interview with ScreenRant. Now that his character has officially been revealed, he was finally able to speak openly—and what he shared gives a chilling glimpse into what’s to come.
Dastmalchian, who’s been soaking in the fan response online, remarked with a laugh how intense the Dexter fanbase is. According to him, “the Dexter fandom is insane—in the best way possible. They’re rabid. They just gobble it up.” He clearly enjoys being part of such a beloved and intense universe, and expressed genuine excitement at joining the cast alongside stars like Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Eric Stonestreet, Neil Patrick Harris, and Krysten Ritter—many of whom he’s known personally for years.
When asked about Gareth, Dastmalchian didn’t hold back. He described the Gemini Killer as one of the darkest roles he’s ever taken on.
“I don’t usually call my characters sick and sadistic,” he admitted, “but Gareth is truly both. The writers created a gnarly killer.”
Inside the Rituals of the Gemini Killer
Dastmalchian went on to describe Gareth’s ritualistic methods—details that paint a disturbing portrait of his character’s psyche.
Each of Gareth’s victims comes in pairs. He chooses people with emotional or familial connections—a father and son, a romantic couple—and once he murders them, he poses the bodies together, always with their hands clasped. It’s a ritual steeped in symbolism, and one that earned him the title of “The Gemini Killer.”
“It’s sad,” he explained. “There’s something twisted and poetic in how he stages them. He forces that connection between victims in death—even if it’s the last thing they’d want.”
But Gareth’s darkness doesn’t end there. Dastmalchian described him as dangerously intelligent and extremely competitive—two traits that will soon place him squarely in Dexter’s crosshairs.
“He’s always the smartest person in the room—and he knows it. That makes his dynamic with Dexter incredibly fascinating.”
And in true villain fashion, Dastmalchian couldn't resist teasing what’s ahead. He joked that he gets to “really mess Dexter up,” and added with a playful jab toward his co-star Michael C. Hall:
“Dexter ain’t got sh*t on Gareth. You hear me, Michael? I’m talking to you—Dexter ain’t got sh*t on Gareth.”
Gareth vs. Dexter: A Clash of Killers
It’s becoming increasingly clear that Gareth is poised to be a major adversary in Dexter: Resurrection. Interestingly, their first on-screen interaction was almost uneventful—just a few passing words at the dinner table. But that subtle introduction may have been the calm before the storm.
Dastmalchian has also hinted that Gareth has a mysterious “secret power” over Dexter, something fans are already dissecting and theorizing about across social media. Combined with the chilling details from this interview, it’s safe to say Gareth is shaping up to be one of Dexter’s most dangerous foes to date.
As the season unfolds, the question looms: Can Dexter outwit the Gemini Killer before it’s too late?
