Big news for fans of Dexter: Original Sin and the James Bond franchise — Patrick Gibson, best known for his role as a young Dexter Morgan, has officially been announced as the new James Bond in the upcoming video game prequel, 007: First Light.
The reveal came just moments ago during the PlayStation State of Play event, putting an end to months of speculation since the game’s mysterious announcement. Not only will Gibson voice the iconic secret agent, but his physical likeness will also be used, making him the official face of the next-generation Bond.
Developed by IO Interactive, the acclaimed studio behind the Hitman series, 007: First Light is a third-person action-adventure game set for release in 2026. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
The story serves as a prequel to the Bond saga, focusing on a 26-year-old James Bond as he transitions from a Royal Navy aircrewman to a newly recruited MI6 agent. The narrative echoes the journey of Dexter Morgan in Original Sin, where a 20-year-old Dexter evolves from a troubled college student to an avenging serial killer.
In 007: First Light, players will experience Bond's early missions, his training, and ultimately his initiation into the elite "00" program. While Gibson already bears a striking resemblance to a young Bond, subtle adjustments have been made for the game, including a slightly different hair color and a signature scar on his right cheek to enhance the character’s rugged charm.
