The actor teased that he interacts a lot with Dexter in the upcoming series.
With Dexter: Resurrection shifting the iconic serial killer’s story to New York City—a bold and brand-new setting for the franchise—fans can expect a wave of fresh faces joining the narrative. One of the first actors confirmed for a recurring role in the highly anticipated sequel is American-Ugandan star Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, who plays a new character named Blessing Kamara.
Although Showtime has remained tight-lipped about Mwine's character, teasers and trailers have offered brief glimpses into Blessing Kamara’s world. From what we’ve gathered, Blessing will make his debut by Episode 2, which drops on the same day as the Dexter: Resurrection premiere.
Kamara is a UrCar driver—a fictional ride-sharing app that mirrors real-world services like Uber in the Dexter universe. It’s through this gig that he first crosses paths with Dexter Morgan. In fact, one trailer reveals Dexter stepping into Kamara’s car, hinting that this chance encounter could evolve into a much deeper connection.
A Glimpse Behind the Scenes
Fans recently got a better look at Blessing Kamara thanks to a behind-the-scenes featurette. In it, Kamara is seen wielding a sword in a tense moment, seemingly coming to Dexter’s aid—raising even more questions about his true role in the story. Is he just an ordinary driver with a good heart, or is there more beneath the surface?
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine on Playing Blessing Kamara
In a recent interview with MovieZine’s Jonatan Blomberg, Mwine spoke primarily about his role in the new Apple TV+ series Smoke, where he stars as the isolated and tormented Freddie. However, he also touched briefly on his upcoming work in Dexter: Resurrection.
“He [Blessing] is a family man. He’s not the loneliest man on the planet. He’s well-connected, he makes friends with everyone he meets, and sort of brings them into his life,” Mwine explained. “I get to interact a lot with Dexter on the show, and it’s almost the opposite of Smoke, because Freddie is almost cursed, and he barely interacts with anyone.”
Could Blessing Kamara Be the New Brother Sam?
Since Blessing’s reveal, many longtime fans have drawn comparisons between him and Brother Sam (played by Mos Def) from Dexter Season 6. Sam was one of the franchise’s most memorable and beloved side characters—wise, spiritual, and ultimately tragic. Sadly, his time on the show was cut short.
Could Blessing Kamara follow a similar arc? Will he serve as Dexter’s conscience, ally, or perhaps something more complex? While it’s too early to tell, fans are already hoping this new character gets the development—and screen time—he deserves.
