Patrick Gibson talks Dexter: Original Sin and his surprising preparation for the role.

Dexter: Original Sin wrapped up its 10-episode first season on Valentine's Day, and while fans eagerly await news of a Season 2 renewal, several cast members continue to promote the series, which is available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime.

The latest star to do so is none other than Patrick Gibson, who plays young Dexter Morgan. Earlier this week, the actor appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where he shared fascinating insights about his early years in Ireland. During the interview, Gibson revealed that he started a band while still in school at just 11 or 12 years old.

Naturally, the conversation turned to Dexter: Original Sin, with Gibson discussing the lengths he went to in order to capture the essence of the iconic character first portrayed by Michael C. Hall.

In a surprising revelation, Gibson admitted that he took method acting to an extreme level while preparing for the role:

"So I read that Michael C. Hall had done that. I was in Miami. I was, like, in a hotel room on my own for a couple of weeks, and I was watching a lot of what Michael had been doing, reading some interviews, and trying to see how he prepared. And I saw that, and I was like, well, clearly, I'm not committed enough. I haven't even thought of stalking anyone. And I did. I went to a cafe, and I kinda, like, chose someone. And I spent, like, forty-five minutes following them around. And then they looked at me, and I panicked and, like, sprinted away down the street. So, yeah, I was like, I'll keep it."

Gibson’s dedication to stepping into Dexter’s shoes adds an intriguing layer to his portrayal of the young serial killer-in-the-making.
