Dexter: Resurrection is now in its second month of production, with filming taking place entirely in New York City and its surrounding suburbs. This marks the first time Dexter Morgan steps into the Big Apple, bringing a fresh setting to the beloved Dexter franchise.

During a recent Instagram Q&A, a fan asked Benz if she would come back for Dexter: Resurrection or any potential Dexter spinoffs. Her response:
"I'm gonna answer this question because I get it a lot. I mean, spoiler alert: Rita died. So as far as coming back for any of the Dexter spinoffs, I don't know how that would be possible. If they figured out a way, sure. If they asked, of course. I loved playing Rita. I loved working with Michael [C. Hall]. I loved the whole cast and crew. It was a great experience for me. But again, again, [laughs] it might not be in the cards because, you know, Rita... [makes throat-cutting gesture] That’s my luck."

Benz has been vocal in the past about her disappointment over Rita’s shocking death in Dexter Season 4’s finale—one of the most tragic and memorable moments in the series.
While Rita’s character met a definitive end, Dexter has a history of using flashbacks and hallucinations to bring back key figures. Since Julie Benz is open to returning, a cameo in Dexter: Resurrection—whether in a dream, memory, or psychological vision—remains a possibility.
