Desmond Harrington Returns to Talk Dexter

This week’s guest is none other than Desmond Harrington, best known for his six-season run as Detective Joseph Quinn in the original Dexter series from 2008 to 2013. Known for his rare interviews, Harrington was invited by Showtime to discuss Episode 8, “Business and Pleasure,” and share his thoughts on the franchise.

Could Quinn Return in Dexter: Resurrection?

Towards the end of the interview, Jamie Chung playfully teased Harrington about a potential return to the Dexter franchise for the upcoming sequel, Dexter: Resurrection. While Harrington remained tight-lipped, Chung—who has insider knowledge from working with Showtime—hinted that fans might just see Quinn again in the future.

Desmond Harrington Reflects on His Dexter Experience

On Dexter’s Rising Popularity

“I knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime event,” Harrington said. “When the show started winning awards, I realized, you just have to enjoy it. Being part of something this special—where it made people happy for an hour every Sunday night—was incredible.”

Memorable Moments as Quinn

Harrington recalled some of his most unforgettable on-set moments. “There were hilarious scenes, like smoking w**d with David Zayas. And then, of course, the... well, let’s say ‘intimate’ moments. I even played a prank once—had the makeup team put an extreme tan line on my lower back just to mess with the scene.”

What He Loved Most About Playing Quinn

“He was a tough narcotics cop with a reputation—stealing money, bending the rules. But suddenly, he’s falling for Deb and saying ‘Screw Dexter.’ The complexity made it fun. Did Quinn always suspect Dexter? Maybe. But my job was to follow the writers’ vision and bring the character to life.”

Thoughts on Dexter: Original Sin

Harrington praised Molly Brown’s performance as a young Debra Morgan. “She did an incredible job capturing Deb’s loneliness and her struggle for love and acceptance. I found myself thinking, ‘I wish I knew that Deb.’”

Patrick Gibson as Dexter

“Paddy was fantastic,” Harrington said. “Michael [C. Hall] is a friend, and it surprised me how much Patrick’s performance reminded me of him. He absolutely nailed it.”

Christian Slater as Harry Morgan

“Christian Slater is phenomenal,” he added. “His portrayal of Harry has this coiled energy—he feels like a father, but with that tension, like he’s ready to snap. It’s a different take, but it works so well.”
