Dexter: Final Cut – Alex Shimizu and Jamie Chung Break Down Episode 7 of Dexter: Original Sin

"It's one of the wildest things I've ever seen", Shimizu said, referring to next week's Episode 8.

The wait is over! Dexter: Original Sin is back, and so is Dexter: Final Cut, the official weekly aftershow for the highly-anticipated prequel series. Hosted by Dexter: New Blood guest star Jamie Chung, the aftershow dives deep into each new episode, bringing exclusive insights and interviews with special guests from the world of Dexter: Original Sin.

This week’s guest is Alex Shimizu, who portrays the younger version of fan-favorite Vince Masuka. Shimizu joined Jamie Chung to discuss the twists and turns of the latest episode, The Big Bad Body Problem.

Alex Shimizu Talks Character, Challenges, and Surprises

Shimizu revealed some unexpected tidbits about himself, including his introverted nature—an intriguing contrast to his active engagement with fans on social media and his knack for creating TikToks. The actor also shared his journey of stepping into the iconic Dexter franchise, his approach to balancing humor and drama, and his admiration for Christian Slater, who also stars in the series.

On the Challenges of Playing Vince Masuka

"I wouldn't say it's a huge challenge, but balancing the humor and drama was something I had to navigate. Honestly, it was less intimidating than I expected. Christian Slater was one of the first people I met on set, and he immediately made me feel at ease. He came up to me like, ‘Hey, man. Can you believe we’re doing this?’ And I was like, ‘I can’t believe you’re doing this, Christian Slater!’ It was surreal."

On the Casting Process

The beloved actor fought to hold back tears as he spoke about landing the role:

"It’s wild to think about now. Back in April, I had two auditions for this role. Looking back, I get emotional—I can’t believe I’m here, part of this universe. It’s exciting and overwhelming in the best way."

On Meeting C.S. Lee (the Original Vince Masuka)

"C.S. Lee has been an incredible mentor for me throughout this project. We’ve hung out, and he’s given me invaluable advice—not just about the character, but about life. He taught me to stay humble and appreciate the journey. He didn’t have to do any of that, but he’s been so supportive, and I’ll always be grateful."
