The series premiere of Dexter: Original Sin is now live. What are your thoughts on it?
It’s been 1,069 days since the final episode of Dexter: New Blood aired on Showtime. Today, for the first time in nearly three years, we’re treated to a brand-new episode of Dexter. This time, the story takes us back to 1991, exploring Dexter Morgan’s life before he fully embraced his dark passenger.
The series introduces Patrick Gibson as a 20-year-old Dexter, and judging by early reactions, the casting choice by Dexter: Original Sin casting director John Papsidera is receiving widespread praise.
The mention of 1,069 days since the New Blood finale isn’t arbitrary—it ties into the prequel’s opening moments, which briefly fast-forward to the aftermath of Harrison’s actions against his father. This intriguing connection offers fans a glimpse of the future while diving into Dexter’s formative years.
Episode 101 also delivered a few surprises, including a modified version of the iconic title sequence first revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. Interestingly, the remixed version of Rolfe Kent's theme was scrapped, with the show opting instead for the original series' classic opening theme—a choice many fans will appreciate.
Notably, Episode 101 is titled “And in the Beginning...” rather than “Original Sin,” as Showtime had initially announced. The episode, written by showrunner Clyde Phillips and directed by Michael Lehmann, runs 50 minutes.
