After killing his brother, the Ice Truck Killer, at the end of last season, Dexter now finds himself unable to kill again. He certainly wants to, and in fact needs to, but he is unnerved by feelings he can't understand. After nearly being killed by the Ice Truck Killer, Debra returns to work at Miami Metro PD, but shows signs that she may not be ready to resume duty just yet.

Dexter, still trying to recover his killer instincts, continues his pursuit of the mountain-sized gangster, Little Chino. Debra convinces herself she is past the trauma of her ordeal with the Ice Truck Killer, but loses control on the job. As they both struggle with their recent pasts, Agent Lundy, a high-profile FBI agent, comes to Miami Metro PD to break the case of the city's newly discovered serial killer, the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Dexter's victim: Little Chino - 45th blood slide. Chino was a big member of a gang called the Twenty-Ninth Street Kings who uses a machete to kill any witness of his gang's crimes. Stabbed in the heart with his machete.

Dexter stalks his latest victim: a murderer so vile he could only be a used-car salesman. Dexter finds the man's smooth-talking charm and effortless lying are things that he himself is lacking these days. In fact, Dexter's inability to lie to Rita about his midnight activities has caused her to think that he's a drug addict, and if he doesn't commit to a 12-step program to deal with his addiction, she threatens to leave him.

Dexter's victim: Roger Hicks - 46th blood slide. Car salesman, who brutally raped and killed more than two women. Stabbed in the heart.
