Dexter: Original Sin dropped two episodes last Friday, and the excitement among fans is palpable. Earlier this morning, Showtime released a brand-new behind-the-scenes featurette for the second episode of Dexter: Original Sin, titled "Kid in a Candy Store."
This video takes fans deeper into the making of Episode 102, featuring bloopers and fun behind-the-scenes moments with the cast. It also includes exclusive insights from Patrick Gibson, Reno Wilson, Alex Shimizu, James Martinez, and special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar. Gellar revealed that a massive mural was created specifically for the show to capture the Miami vibe, and it remains on display at a particular street in Los Angeles.
James Martinez on the funniest scene in episode 2:
"In Episode 2, Angel Batista teaches Dexter how to dance salsa. He pulled it off because he fooled me. He really looked like he couldn't dance. It was hilarious. I still don't know if he can actually dance."
Reno Wilson on the first crime scene:
"Dexter's first crime scene was, in fact, the first scene where all of us were together. You had James as Batista with his hat and vest, the shoulder holster, Dempsey as the captain with his gray streak and sunglasses, and SMG doing her thing as Queen of Forensics. Then Alex played Masuka. I remember stumbling over saying 'Masuka' four times because I was so excited about being in such an iconic scene. But what I remember most about that day was how beautiful and intimate everything felt. Doris has passed away, and the scene was very detailed and personal."
Alex Shimizu on filming together for the first time:
"I think that was when I really started to realize, 'Oh, we're actually making this.' We were literally going to crime scenes as our characters. It was a great bonding time for the cast and one of the first times we all got to be together."
Sarah Michelle Gellar on the sweltering heat:
"It was my first time with everyone, and my first day on set. It was probably 100 degrees, which I know is very Miami, but I’m not used to working outside in that kind of heat. But everything about it just felt so Dexter."
Patrick Gibson on family dynamics:
"Doris has passed away recently on the show, leaving a huge void where she once was. There’s a lot of focus on the father-son dynamic between Dexter and Harry. Dexter is a pretty demanding son who requires a lot of attention, and Deb kind of gets left out."
Molly Brown on her similarities to Deb:
"In Episode 2, I’m literally standing outside, watching them for a good chunk of the scene. And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I want to be in that room too, guys.’ I often feel so much like Deb. Even in my own family, there have been times when I’m like, ‘Wait, you have a group chat that I’m not in?’ It’s funny how that happens, even in friendships. But I’m not trying to turn this into a therapy session!"
