    3. I am really surprised that some people ore having a go at Yvonne. I am a Chuck fan but have never watched Dexter and if Yvonne was not making an appearance I never would.
She has been bought in by producers as a) she is a brilliant actress and b)She will proabably bring more viewers.
The fact is that Chuck had more viewers than Dexter and that there is a good chance that others like me will watch now so it is not surprising that she was a focus at Comic-con.

    4. SRB ---

I am a huge Chuck fan, but let's be honest.

Chuck got cancelled because of low ratings - meanwhile Dexter is so off the charts for it's network that they ponied up TWENTY FOUR MILLION DOLLARS for MCH to do just two more seasons.

That's 12 million per season just to the lead actor - which was probably as much as the entire budget of S5 of Chuck!

Chuck pulled an average 1.0 demo in S5 on Network TV with about 4 million total viewers per week (including DVR)

Dexter averaged a 2.0 in S6 on PREMIUM Cable with about 5.5 million total viewers per week.

Yet Dexter was available on far less televisions.

Chuck sells about two hundred thousand DVD's per season...

Dexter sells about one MILLION DVD's per season...

So in terms of popularity? It's no contest.

      However in terms of fans?

Chuck fans are absolutely loyal to their show. Even when the showrunners drop the ball they are generally positive and long-suffering, despite a series final that was absolutely divisive (some liked it, others like myself hated it) - Chuck fans on each side of the argument at least try to show respect for each other and are willing to listen to or accept the other side. There is some negative stuff from time to time (really crazy shippers for example), but for the most part the fan base is tight - they absolutely adore all their actors and producers and treat them like royalty.

Dexter fans are all over the place. Posters are usually talking about how much their show sucks now, and how the producers and writers suck, and how much they want to them fired. They threaten each other, and flame so profusely that most boards are a war zone over any divisive plot element. The lead actress on the show gets ripped on all the time by some of the fanbase for the way she looks, the way she acts, and so on. Another actress on the show was killed off and part of the fanbase screamed "good I hated that bitch!" just because she nagged at Dexter a litte bit! (Can you imagine Chuck fans screaming for Ellie to die because she nagged at Chuck?)

The Chuck writers always tried to please hard core fans and critics and responded to their criticisms, which caused the ratings to plummet because they lost the "non hardcore fan" viewers that are the majority of the audience. Whenever the writers tried to explore darker or "unsavory" territory on Chuck the fans exploded and the writers immediately backed off and the ratings tanked.

The Dexter writers continually ignore their fans and the critics and do what they want and believe in with the story, which continually pisses off the hardcore fan base and yet causes the ratings to SOAR each season because they keep attracting the causal fans that make up the majority of the audience. When the writers tried to explore taboo territory (semi-incest) on Dexter, the fans exploded in anger, and the writers... went through with it anyway! And of course ratings went through the roof. :)

Finally - no fan in real life ever murdered anyone (and probably never will) and said "Chuck Bartowski inspired me to do it!" With Dexter there is already half a dozen and before it's all said there will probably be more. :(

Being involved in Dexter after Chuck is like going to an Insane Clown Posse gig when you are used to Neil Diamond concerts...

  2. Agreed Patrick! I feel like they are making it seem like she is the female star in the show now instead of Deb.

    1. Yeah Yvonne Strahovski is acting like she is the female lead not a guest star. It looks like her recent success is starting to go to her head. I think Showtime is pushing her so much in the hope she will bring her Chuck fans to Dexter.

    2. Yeah she should cut her interviews short and turn down photo shoots. In fact she shouldn't leave her house unless she has to, right? Jeez..

Yes, we've been seeing a lot of her and I would rather have some pics and interviews with Jennifer but what is she supposed to do?

    3. She probably learned from Zach Levi. Zach is a ham, you can't be around the guy without picking up on his infectious energy. He engages with fans and makes himself available to them all the time. Just look at all the stuff he put together at comic con! He pulled together cast members from BSG, Firefly, Chuck, et. and made this zany and violent home movie about cosplay zombies in a trailer park using top name actors, put together his own panels, did a segment with Larry King for CNN, and got in tight with the Game of Thrones cast - all of this while he is technically "out of work" as an actor.

If you saw the early stuff with Chuck, Yvonne was a little shy at the beginning, but 5 years acting and hanging with Zach obviously rubbed off on her. She's plays the Hollywood game now and has fun doing it and it's good for the show. Also, she is beautiful in that "mass market" sort of way that appeals to every dude and teenage boy that has had the "hot blonde" cliche jammed down their throat all their lives.

She's bringing a little energy and zing to Dexter and getting some attention and that's not a bad thing at all.

I could be completely wrong, Jennifer Carpenter "seems" like more of a quirky, sensitive personality and she doesn't look comfortable putting herself out there all the time. I doubt she ever wants to do much publicity stuff.

    4. The fact is that she is an Actress being paid to play and PROMOTE the show these interviews etc would have been booked by Dexters producers. They are the people who arranged her to go to Comic Con.
Also this is celebrating an award that Yvonne had won for work she has already done, other than one mention of her future role on Dexter, it is nothing to do with Dexter at all.
I certainly Agree that she is more confident at events like comic con and interviews as she got cast in Chuck basicaly as soon as she arrived in the US and she has got used to the attention over the last 6 years.

  3. C'mon. This is an australian magazine. Of course she'd be the star.
    Relax.

  4. I don't care if she gets more attention than Jeniffer at the moment. There are only 12 things that matter. And the first of it will air on September 30.

  5. Yvonne bashing uncalled for.

  6. Maybe you should direct the complaints to those who post these unrelated articles. Or you could just ignore them. Whatever...

Yeah, Showtime scheduled a bunch of interviews and pr-events for her at Comic Con, but I'm pretty sure she was contractually obligated to do those so you just have to deal with it.

  7. This is totally unrelated and off topic to this post but it is still Dexter related. I just spotted this on the front of Yahoo's website and figured I would link it, maybe John can put it up as a post?

  8. Why hate? She is only trying to expand her career as an actress. The reason is why she is 'everywhere' is because she's 'hot' ; hollywood like what they see because she is1) marketable 2) will make money for hollywood 3) and three, she is good at what she does. This is her job, and saying things like slow down on the movies/interviews/photo shoots would be like telling her to work less, therefore her income will decrease. Yvonne is a successful actress, the entertainment inudstry is very 'cut-throat' so i think, in my opinion, she should recognised and congratulated for her success, not hated for her progress.

    1. How do you know she will make money for Hollywood? All the films she has done so far have been bombs. Actresses like Emma Stone, Blake Lively and Jennifer Lawrence are much younger and have already made far more money than her.

  9. She learned form Zac?! Everyone learn something from someone but she has not learned everything from him. She's awesome and talented because of HER,because she has studied and worked.PLEASE respect her,she loves Dexter fans... why you hate her?

    1. Elisabetta:

      Good grief.

Pull yourself together - there is no hate or disrespect here.

I said specifically that she learned how to give an interview and put herself in the spotlight. But if you had been a fan of Chuck since S1 and watched all the early interviews with her and Zach you can totally see her transformation and confidence level rise. She even picked up on some of his mannerisms. Whenever you work with someone for that many years - you pick up tricks from them, it's almost impossible not to have a partner like that in any profession and NOT learn.

    2. In what you wrote there's no hate,I know, but in the first comment yes.I was referring to that...

I agree with you about her transformation but I don't think that Zac was the only factor that has contributed to it.That's all I meant.Maybe there was a misunderstanding because of my imperfect english.I hope you understand now.

    3. Never said he was the only factor just as I never even remotely implied that I hated her, in fact Yvonne is my 3rd favorite actress on TV. :)

Now, we'll see how she handles playing a villain - I have a suspicion that Season 7 is going to play out like Season 2 and Hannah is going to be a "Lila" type character that Dexter turns to in retaliation against Deb pushing him to change his behavior. I think the season will play out pretty interesting.

You sound like you are hating on Zachary Levi.

    5. The poster probably isn't hating on him, remember that these two Chuck actors seem to have very different personalities. Anyway, it's about time she gets the chance to do a darker role. Very exciting it's with Dexter himself.

  10. The Yvonne and Zac comments on this board are getting weird... Let's admit it, we don't know anything significantly real about these people. We see a collection of interviews of them is all, and it's not very smart to judge them with merely those. May be going too far with the observations/assumptions here.

      Settle down.

Nothing significant has been said about them, the ONLY thing that has been said is that "one actor learned from another".

That's it, period. Nothing else, nada.

I'd call that fairly smart and understated on a board where people pontificate for hours on the sideways glance one person gave another after sipping their water during a comic con panel. :)

  11. To those who dislike Yvonne Strahovski - be patient ! She's just a "sacrificial blonde" introduced to create headlines. Her character has been described as having "a mysterious past" involving a "killing spree". This MUST mean once her past misdeeds (and any new ones ?) are discovered she will be introduced to the Dexter ritual and be put to death. Happy then guys ?
