    2. We do cause in the other sneak peek it showed an image of Deb and Dex burning Travis/The Church...I hope she realizes that Dex is lying about all of this when she see's the kill tools, ritualistic set-up, and realizes that he's in a kill suit. I don't want them to spend this whole season Deb uncovering that Dex is the BHB. I want her reaction to that NOW!

  16. Damn, that sux...i was hoping the whole truth would be revealed to Deb. She is too smart to believe such a weak lie like that. Gay!

    3. Dexter is a compulsive liar. His automatic reaction is to create a story and mask the appropriate emotion.

His real emotion is despair at Deb finding out his secret, but he's turning it into a facade of regret and fear and whatever else a normal human would feel after killing someone.

I don't think Deb believes it, deep down, but isn't really comfortable pressing the matter at this time. She'll probably give him a good grilling later about the plastic, it's implications, and everything when she feels more safe.

I love that his first instinct is to concoct some story to explain his actions, though it's a very weak story.

    2. Deb uses "fuck" as a normal part of normal conversation. But in this scene she is really shocked.

      Delete
    3. Did Dex just say "fuck" at 0:30? Nice face expression anyway.

Come on Dex. Tell Deb that Brian wanted you to kill Deb and that you killed him instead.
      DO IT!

      Delete
    4. I believe the words "holy shit" or "oh shit" were used by Dexter in that scene.

    5. Would it be weird if Dex said "fuck"? He says that word almost every episode.

  23. I love this, kind of caught me off guard. I guess I expected him to confess everything, but that's not what Dexter would do. He's completely caught off guard, and making a very feeble attempt to cover up what he can. I love that she called him out on the plastic. I hope they take it all the way back and have Deb remember that she was wrapped in plastic with Rudy/Brian too. There's no reason the writers should pull any punches this season. I think we're all curious to see how the season starts, but we have to realize that it's not all going to unfold that first hour.

She's going to have to unravel Dexter, and seeing how he tries to cover his ass will be interesting. I can't see him just outright admitting everything eventually, unless she tells him she totally figured it out. I have absolutely no idea how they are going to pull this season off. I'm very excited to see what everyone has wondered this whole time, what side will Deb take?

  25. Oh my, I was gone for like two weeks and now when I'm back I find out so many fabulous thing happened in the meantime :) And as I've just catched everything up, I feel so... stimulated or whatever, all I can think of is Dexter and that I want the season 7 like yesterday...
This is fabulous... It was kinda obvious that Dexter will try to save as much of his secret as possible, but what pleasantly suprised me was how clever Debra behaved, immediately realising that the Dexter's story doesn't really explain the wrapping and all... She really keeps making me more and more proud of her. And the "who are you calling?" is brilliant :)
Btw just my spoilery imagination - remember that one screen cap from the fast-moving sneak peek in which there is Debra looking for something in the Miami Metro archive? This, LaGuerta re-opening the Bay Harbor Butcher case and the way how quickly she realised that Dexter may be lying to her brings me to conclusion that she'll probably quite quickly connect Dexter with the Bay Harbor Butcher case... And than it will be even more interesting :) She'll realise that he is a serial killer but at the same time she'll realise that it still doesn't make him a bad person (since Bay Harbor Butcher always killed just the worst kind of people). So it's not really that bad for him... But she'll probably be very angry at him for lying to her so much :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. "she'll realise that it still doesn't make him a bad person... so it's not really that bad for him...etc"

Eh? He KILLS people. Viciously. Not compassionately but viciously and sadistically.

Torturing, taunting, cutting up people and slicing them sometimes while they are still alive, enjoying the killing process, relishing the next kill, lying, endangering people... I could go on.

Not exactly a good person. Except, I forgot, he ONLY kills other killers. Oh well, that's ok then... Let him kill as much as he wants and as sadistically as he wants... Deb will still be in love with him. Really?

I don't buy it. Her feelings have to change when faced with these truths. How can they not change? To say that she'll be ok with him killing because, well, he only kills killers, but be angry because he lied about it to her is absurd. I don't understand that argument at all.

      Delete
    2. I agree that Dexter is not the man the naive viewers want him to be and i think that that's why he's so interesting. Because he is a sadistic killer after all. It doesn't matter if Harry and his psychotic tendencies are mainly to blame for that and that he could have turned out differently if it weren't for him because the result is still the same. That's what makes the show so alluring, the central character is fucked up. But that doesn't mean she'll get over her feelings...i don't think she will. you don't just erase years of loving.

      Delete
    3. So Moony...there's nothing wrong in killing a human being in a ritualistic sadistic manner as long as they're "bad". That's so romanticized and sorry...downright stupid. What does that mean exactly? haha So that makes it okay for me to make a list of all the people that i see as deserving to die and go out and chop them up tonight. :) Dexter is a dark comedy/drama about a troubled guy with some fucked up tendencies who's in search of his true identity and nature and the relationships he's cultivating with mainly deb and those around him. it's not a vigilante show. but it's interesting to see how different personalities interpret things differently.

      Delete
    4. anyone else that doesn't think what he does is heroic but still likes the character for the heroic fuckedupness that he is, out there?!

      Delete
    5. Don't get me wrong, of course I KNOW Dexter is a real killer, sadistic, also manipulative and all... But - So what? I mean we aren't living in Disney world... All of us are in some ways twisted, evil creatures run by our primal urgues... Yes, some are more twisted than the other and some have different primal urgues, but... For what is really inside him, for his nature, he IS a good person. Of yourse it also depends on what you see as a good person, but... Most of us gladly use all of our personal darkness just for selfish goals from time to time, not really caring if we hurt someone other (if it's just someone random, not a close person). Of course we don't kill people but that's because we don't usually have the killing as one of our primal needs. But Dexter chooses how to channel that darkness, he never has some "killing spree". He does need to kill since it's part of his needs - he could live without that, but not fully, probably similary as we can live without sex but as it's one of our primal needs, we'll never feel really "complet" withought it. Dexter just has different needs than most of the people... But for having them, he behaves as a good person since he never harms the innocent, he just uses the urgue for a good cause. And if you say that's only because Harry taught him - Dexter had so many oportunities to reject it completely, especially after Harry died and couldn't control him anymore. The result? Dexter still takes the advices from Harry, he geniunly cares about Harrison or Debra, he's helped innocent even when he knew it can cost him everything (Lumen)... So why do you think he's worse than any of us?

And about Debra's feelings - I still see it the way as I've said before - at first she'll be surprised and disgusted, and as she tries to be tough, she won't allow herself this feelings... for some time... but as the time passes and she'll see that he is really the same person he has always been (just she knows him better now), still doing lots of good and behaving generally as always, she won't be able to suppress her feelings anymore. Mainly because she's loved him her whole life... You can't just erase something like that, even if you wanted to...

    8. Patrick Bateman: Well, feel free to think what you want, after all we are entitled to our own opinions... But honestly, you seem to be the one who sees the world "black and white" and quite naively...

      Delete
    9. I don't see him as heroic AND I do 'feel' for him because he is so fucked up.

I would add that 'fucked up' is also what Dexter 's victims are as well. That is the whole ironic basis of the show.

Everyone has good and bad in them. However small. And everyone suffers in their way. So bottom line is that there are no differences between Dexter and his victims. EXCEPT, we do get to hear Decter's internal dialogue (which is usually subversive and darkly comical, and self deprecating) and because we hear that, we are able to 'like' him. He can be extremely funny. And we like people who make us laugh, right? If they made a similar show about Trinity using Trinity's internal conflict/dialogue/humour, then we would end up liking him (or other Dexter victims) also.

The argument that because he only kills 'bad' people (of which he, Dexter himself, is one because the behaviour is the same) that makes him morally acceptable or somehow different to his victims is questionable.

      Delete
    10. I guess I'm trying to say that you can like someone AND despise/be repulsed by their behaviour.

Plus: if we like Dexter, then why dont we like his victims?

    13. moony got the exact opposite of what i was trying to say, possibly because she doesn't get irony. i was using an example to make a point. point being. it doesn't matter who his victims are. i like him anyway. stop making him look like a hero, THERE'S NO NEED FOR THAT.

    17. don't you just love f***** off when i'm doing my thing, anonymous? :)

      Delete
    18. Of course I get irony (I don't really think we know each other that well to just make statements like that about each other)... It's just I don't think Dexter's SO fucked up, like his victims, and that we love Dexter just because we can peek into the mind of a killer... Sure that's great, funny and everything, but it isn't the only reason why (at least some of us) love Dexter... Dexter isn't just "a killer", maybe he started at that, but then he evolved, which is very notable mainly in season 1 with Brian (since Brian didn't evolve this way, even though they started the same). But hey, if you want to see Dexter just like a plain killer, feel free to do that. But do you really think that if someone doesn't agree with you, it's because he's stupid? 'Cos you know what they say about people who call the other people stupid just for seeing the world differently...

      Delete
    19. I can see both sides of your arguments - and I am on the middle on this one. I think what Dexter does is completely psychotic and wrong, but there is a small part of me that takes great pleasure in seeing him slice up raping murderers and scumbags that kill children, and so on.

I'd rather have him as a neighbor in real life, than I do the damn tweekers that live near me right now, except that I'd always be worried about the day he really snapped... I'd keep a watch on him.

Then one day I'd turn to my wife. "Pack your bags honey, Morgan's going over the edge!"

      Z

      Delete
    20. i didn't say you were stupid. i'm not saying he is JUST a killer, obviously he's taking on other roles in his life, especially with harrison and debra. and that's part of the charm, seeing him trying to balance everything out. brian might not have evolved that way but he was certainly at complete ease with himself and to my eyes quite a loving brother. trinity was severely damaged , and i did sympathize with him as well. i've always loved challenging, controversial characters in movies and shows. it's why i like breaking bad, oz, sopranos and the wire and it's why henry portrait of a serial killer and angst, an austrian film,(probably where the writers got he idea for the voice overs) belong in my list of favourite films. i don't just like dexter because i get to peek inside the mind of a killer and i do acknowledge he's evolved but i'm not ashamed to admit it's one of the reasons. and yes, he's no better than any of his victims so far, certainly not better than his brother. i won't mention the flat characters of a a badly written season like season 5 but all the other seasons had well developed characters to the point where you SEE that dexter is not a better man than his victims.

      Delete
    21. I think the show is designed to question ourselves. The show is cleverly written to draw us into Dexter's world and actually like him. The internal dialogue is not just incidental. It is absolutely crucial to the whole foundation of the show. Without it, there is no way in to the character of Dexter at all.

So, the show is asking... hey if you like Dex, why don't you like his victims?

I would personally answer... Because I don't know their story and I don't hear their comical, ironic, fucked up internal thought processes. I mean, it's not even 'liking', it's more 'understanding' and 'feeling for him'. Why? Because I'm fucked up too. I don't kill, but I have compulsions, I know what it is to have internalised rage and an intense desire to find some form of relief. We all have something. A need to release, a need to escape from ourselves or our lives. As humans, we're not different at all. It's just that the manifestations/behaviour show up in different ways.

Fucked up is what makes humans so interesting... That isn't black or white at all. Black or white is saying Dexter is acceptable but his victims are not.

    25. Z - That would be probably the most realistic and logical way how to treat Dexter in real life, LOL

Patrick Bateman - you called me stupid at 8:58... And even though you might not think it, I also love the characters that are kind of bad and good at the same time (apart from Dexter I mainly love the character of Nicholas Rush on Stargate Universe (hugely underestimated show) who is exactly this way)... And I surely don't see Dexter just like a hero (I never said that... )... I just don't see him just like a bad guy either, in fact the way he can control himself and care about other people makes him good in my eyes, even though he is no Gandghi - after all none of us is 100% good person... And for me this is the thing that differes him from the other killers - how he channels that darkness in him. But I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one...
But of course I'm not ashamed to admit to like him for his true killer self too, I thought it was quite obvious in my previous comment, where I was speaking about that all of us have some darkness inside...

      Delete
    31. Right, I mean that is the appeal of the show, right?

We are ALL Dexter Morgan, we all have a DP, something in our lives that if we don't get it under control we are fucked, and yet don't we all derive great joy from doing the thing we know we shouldn't be giving in to? It could be addiction to an online game (like my friend who is playing WOW so much she starting to fuse with her chair), food addiction, sexual addiction, drugs, alcohol, et.

All the things that Dexter feels - the sense of isolation and feeling like an outsider, not being able to fit in or understand people, being afraid of being seen for who you really are - that's all of us, and for those of us that are nerds, it's even a better identification.

It's my favorite show for a reason - because I can actually relate to Dexter Morgan more than I can relate to a mob boss, or a rich advertising executive, or a cop, or even a nerdy chemist turned meth dealer.

Quite a brilliant premise for a book/tv show. A wealth of fuckeduppedness material to discuss... !

    34. ggeal: Well, but you still have a death penalty in lots of states of USA, don't you? So you don't really have such a big problem with the killing part, right? What you seem to have a problem with is the "enyjoing your work" and torture part... To that I can say - didn't the killers Dexter killed also torture their victims, in one way or another? I see it's not lawful, but whether it's just or not is probably for every one of us to decide (that's probably why Dexter is so popular in the first place - it quite redeffines what is moral, what is just and all, and there are no universally good answers)...

    40. 11:33 AM I don't have problems with Dexter killing people the way he does it in the TV series. I am much more ill at ease with the descriptions of his kills in the books, *those* feel really creepy.

The way Dexter kills in the TV series is in most cases much more humane than either one of lethal injection, electric chair, or gas chamber. Expertly severing the aorta the way Dexter often does it deprives your brain of oxygen within...what, fifteen seconds of so? Compare this with botched executions, insufficient electric currents, wrong dosages of lethal injection compounds...people dying for minutes, tens of minutes... Not to mention the years before the actual execution that give the capital convicts enough time to get crazy. And when alternative execution methods get dismissed by law givers and the (conservative) common folks as "being too merciful", one can't avoid the feeling that a substantial portion of the US populace is formed of part-time Dexters.

I'm not exactly sure where I stand on the debate whether to kill off the worst criminals or whether to let them rot in prison to death, but the way I see it, it sure isn't the point to descend to their level when dealing with them.

(BTW, in my country, the death penalty was abolished in 1990 and it was comparatively seldom applied even before. So "I still have" nothing of the kind.)

  26. I expected more from the dialogue, but realized this could be a 15 minutes scene that they edited and cut down to make 2 minutes... there is no way deb believes him, she saw him and lumen take out Jordan Chase in season 5 and let it go... so? now she's going to roll her brother? not so fast.. the puzzle that deb needs to put together is going to be the real fun! good stuff!

    3. Of course she doesn't know (yet) who the 13th barrel girl was. That was the point of that scene. She is ok without someone taking revenge, but she didn't want to know who that person is so she wouldn't have to arrest her.

  29. I can definitely see Deb connecting the dots and figuring out that Dex has killed more than just Travis Marshall. What surprises me is there was no flashback to season one of when she was on the table wrapped in plastic. Season seven has a lot of potential, I just hope it doesn't get ruined but being that we are in the last two seasons of the show I expect awesomeness all the way. I think now officially I am dead seeing this!

    3. In the beginning of season 2 some people had the idea that the bodies in the bags were ITK victims plus the medical examiner found out that the BHB used plastic sheets.

But it seems like Deb never thought there might be any connection between her being wrapped in plastic by the ITK and the BHB using plastic.

I can't wait to watch her connecting all the dots...

That season is gonna be awesome.

His logical thought process is that Tragedy = Pity/Reason for most ill behavior. By invoking stuff like that (Self Defense, Personal Trauma, Unresolved Issues) he hopes she'll either understand or overlook the weak story he came up with.

Of course, her being a Cop she doesn't buy it for two seconds, but she's not about to call him out on it when she's alone with him in an abandoned church three seconds after she saw him kill someone. Safety first.

    3. True. Well, I don't think he does or would tell her it all. At least establish he's a serial killer. Or I hope by end of episode 1. Still a whole puzzle and connections to be made from seasons past for her to discover, etc.

    2. As soon as she sees those, it's over. And she will as soon as she gets a bit closer to Travis.

"So your forensic instincts told you to bring exactly the same knives we found with Doakes' prints on it? And why is there a BHB blood slide?"

Exactly like the scene with Rita and the shoe...just a thousand times better/worse...

  34. Is that the Mass Effect theme starting at 0:49?

Great music for the most important scene of an even greater series.

  35. I believe since season 4 they have leaked the first episode of dexter on the internet a week before it airs. So hopefully I won't have to wait until sept 30, but sept 23.

    2. I agree. Stupid thing to write. But I can just see Scott Buck go "She's a cop, this would be her first instinct". I expected this from Buck. Typical over-thinking ...forgetting what people would really do in such a situation.

      Delete
    3. Um, her first instinct as the Lt. of Miami Metro would be exactly that, to call it in - that's her routine. She is on AUTO-Pilot, in emotional shock, and very frightened and she is not thinking it through at all - and she will stop dialing as soon as Dexter points out the "consequences" that have not occurred to her in her current state.

So turning this into the "let's hate on Scott Buck" is retarded, because we already know she will come to her senses, not call it in, and not only that - she is going to participate in a cover up and put her entire LIFE and her career on the line for Dexter in the next 30 minutes of that scene. You do realize she would go to prison for that right?

So sitting here saying "I hate Deb today" sounds as corny as ripping on Scott Buck for the VERY BEST opening scene of Dexter since S1

I mean, seriously, what the fuck?

  38. Wow, that's too amazing! As people said at comments, the "who are you calling?"moment is brilliant, as well as Deb pay attention to Travis wrapped in plastic.

Also, the facial expression of Dexter at the beginning of the video is so awkward when Deb is aiming at Dex with her gun... It's such as he would seem that he apologizes to Deb, but it's so difficult to Dexter to express his feelings so he show these... particular face hahaha.

Finally... can someone tell me if there is this video uploaded and subtitulated (in english or spanish or even french)? I'm from Spain so there is certain moments of the conversation that I don't understand at all who they say.

Thank you very much and sorry for my poor english. Now, wait to the 30th September... Wow, the countdown will be soooo looong!!

    1. Luckily for you I have some spare time right now:

      Dex: Oh god.

Deb: Get the f*** away from the body.

      Dex: Deb, it's me.

      Deb: Who's on the altar?

      Dex: Travis Marshall.

      Deb: Dexter, what the f***.

      Dex: ****

      Deb: Talk to me.

Dex: Could you lower your gun? Please. ... I came to do one last forensic sweap like you asked me to when... Travis was here. He came at me with this sword. I fought him off, I knockt him out.

Deb: How did he end up wrapped in plastic on the altar

      Dex: I snapped.

Deb: You snapped? F*** does that mean?

Dex: It's been a lot of anger in me ever since Rita died. When I looked at Travis and thought about everything he did I just wanted him dead, so I killed him.

      Deb: Dexter.

      Dex: I know.

Deb: It still doesn't explain why he's wrapped up like that.

Dex: I didn't even think about it. I'm a forensics expert. I guess it's just second nature not to leave a trace.

      Deb: Jesus, Dex.

      Dex: Who are you calling?

Deb: Station. I've got to get everyone down here.

      Dex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81Jg6L16Mzs

      You're welcome :)

    2. I think that Dexter was faking a lot of those facial expressions...

      Delete
    3. Yup. The emotion in his voice don't quite match the emotions on his face. Chalk it up to great acting.

      Delete
    4. That's not very clear how I wrote that last comment. Let me try again: His voice sounds emotional and apologetic, but his face is somewhat blank.

      Delete
    5. Yes, I'm not sure how to put it.

Dexter is so obviously lying, and yet lying is supposed to be second nature for him. He is not convincing in his lying here at all. Is that deliberate?

I'm totally getting Deb's reaction, superbly played out and intense. The only thing with Dex that got me was his sudden 'psycho' look when he realised she was making a call. Brilliant. Other than that, though, I found Dexter's reactions rather 'fake' (as you say) but obviously so. Which to me is confusing. After all, he is the master of deception.

      Delete
    6. Dexter is a good lyer only when isn't emotional involved.

      Delete
    7. ohhhh totally totally agree

      Delete
    8. Yea, this is brilliant acting.

He IS having emotions, just all the wrong ones - you can see the fear, regret for Deb finding out et, but not the emotions he is saying that he is having. His responses are off and it's freaking Deb out even more because she can see right through it.

Brilliant acting by both of them, I mean he is totally "Dexter" in that moment, there is no trace of MCH at all, and the same for Jen... her hands are shaking, her voice is cracking and we see Deb exactly as she would be, it's just so completely natural. Really, the only other actors in TV that play off each other this well are Cranston and Paul.

    9. Z - Yes, thousand times :) I even loved that moment when Dexter makes a face like "Is she buying it?" :)) It was brilliant and I can't wait to see the whole scene...

  39. So, does this technically qualify as the Season 7 Trailer? If so, I'm rather disappointed. I'm not saying this wast a superb scene (because it certainly was) but I would have liked to see a sneak peak of some other things that will be happening this season, such as the new characters.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Ther will surely be another trailer.

For season 6, there was a guest star sneek peak published after the Comic-Con trailer (luckily I found it on Youtube after I had watched the season because it spoilered basically the entire first episodes).

  40. Given the knives on the altar - "You said you didn't want a chair, so I used a table." - the title of the episode could in fact mean "Are you the Bay Harbour Butcher."

    ReplyDelete
  41. I like all the subtle looks MCH gives that say, "Is she buying this?" Then he laughs after Debra says, "That still doesn't explain the plastic." That laugh was, "Shit, I taught her well."

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wow, my comment complaining about the lack of a full confession sparked a plethera of good replies...I agree with you guys. My initial reaction was, really? They're going to let him get away with it again? But, there is no way she doesn't figure out the truth...that would be pretty lame. But I do hope this doesn't throw Dex off so much he gets super sloppy all over again. He is at his best and most interesting when he is outwitting everyone like in season 1, in my opinion...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ahhh love the psychotic look that takes over his face when she starts calling the cops. Poor Deb.

  44. Wow, anyone notice how threatening he looks as he walks towards her, and the fear in her eyes as she doesn't know whether to step back or to stand her ground. Brilliantly acted.

    1. btw- guess how the last 8th season will end.. i think debra will finally find out everything about true dexter's secret, what monster he is, and she will shoot him. only dexter's death is the most probably ending of the story about "serial killer who kills killers"

      Delete
    2. First of all, Deb will know everything about Dex by the end of season 7.
Second, this ain't Breaking Bad. This can end without Dex being dead.

      Delete
    3. 7:39

Breaking Bad is not going to end with Walter being dead... they are already talking movie, seriously talking movie. Perhaps he dies in the movie.

And like I have offered before, I think that Dexter should end open ended and then do a movie as well. AND if Breaking Bad does it, you know damn well that Dexter will. :)

  47. The way he gets closer and closer to Deb without her realising... reminds me of Doakes' attempt to arrest Dex.
Plus she uses both hands for the phone, which means she put the gun away...

I can't imagine Dex actually attacking Deb, but...

    ReplyDelete
  48. You know, I remember thinking for some reason, during season 4 that eventually Deb would end up on Dexter's table. And while at first I completely refused to believe that at all. Now I find myself wondering about it. How far will Dexter go to keep his dark passenger away from prying eyes? I mean as likable as Dexter is, let's not forget. He is completely off his rocker. He is TOTALLY psychotic. He not only ritualistically, gruesomely kill people, dismember them, and dispose of there bodies. But he also talks to his dead foster father, and his dead brother as we saw last season. I realize that Dexter really does have love for his sister, but who knows. I love how this season is shaping up. As a side note, Yvonne Stavovski's character sounds very very interesting. I am so curious to see how her character and Dexter interact. She is gorgeous and a phenomenal actor, so that should be interesting. I really feel like we are about to see the absolute best this show has ever given us. I don't get why so many people seem to want EVERYTHING to come out about Dexter to Deb in this first scene in the church. I WANT them to have some fun with this and sort of gradually over a few episodes, maybe most of the season, have more and more details about who/what Dexter is become more and more clear to Deb. I.e. The BHB, the plastic and what that means, the blood slide. All that. In short, I CAN NOT FREAKING WAIT UNTIL 9/30/12. Hail Darkly Dreaming Dearly Devoted Deeply Disturbed Demented Daddy Dexter.

  49. Lila felt sorry for Dex, Miguel was thankful and while Lumen was scarred of Dex in the beginning, she had no problem with him killing Jordan's gang (although in the end she decided to leave Dex).

Deb's reaction is completily different from that. I'm not sure she will just accept that Dex is a serial killer and be ok with that. Finally she has, but it surely won't be as easy as with Miguel.
