Yvonne Strahovski on Her 'Dexter' Role as Hannah McKay: "I Feel Very Lucky"

Via: TVLine.com: With Chuck and that loyal gaggle of Nerd Herders behind her, Yvonne Strahovski has (as previously reported) set her sights on a killer role in Dexter‘s upcoming seventh season.

Unfortunately, as is typical with the Showtime saga, details surrounding the guest spot are being kept under wraps. That didn’t, however, stop the bubbly actress from gushing to TVLine about her new gig on Wednesday night, at the Australian Breakthrough Awards (where she was an honoree).

“I feel very lucky to have come from Chuck, and then gone straight into a movie, I, Frankenstein, and then to something completely different again with Dexter,” Strahovski said of her transition from one cult fave to another.

“Dexter is respected for the quality of work that the actors and the writers and everybody brings to that show,” she continued, praising the series she now calls home. “It’s just really nice to be part of something that’s so celebrated in this industry.”

As for how her mystery lady plays into Dexter‘s slice-n-dicey world, Strahovski was careful not to show her hand (or even one card) just yet. She did tease, cagily, that her character, Hannah McKay, is “a woman who is haunted by her past, and [becomes] involved in solving a murder through Dexter.”

And why exactly is she so beneficial in aiding such an investigation? Laughed Strahovski, “That is a mystery that I cannot reveal!”

  2. She's terrific! Strong female lead...should give Jennifer a run for her money.

    3. What is your fear Needle? That they are going to use Hannah to chickenshit out of Dex/Deb?

They just might do that... never can tell.

yes. i didnt want a new female character if they were going to use her as a sexual interest for dexter at this point of the story. also, i pictured the character as complex, strange and dark, the whole redeeming thing does not sound good to me. but you never know, might turn out to be surprising.

    5. Maybe Hannah will inadvertently bring Dex and Deb together... ?

Dexter is (or was) her 'safe' place. Unknown to Dexter, Deb has been his safe place also. The two have to collide at some point in some way? Their intimacy (however you want to interpret it) is far weightier than anything a new character could bring to Dexter's world, at this point. Surely?

      We'll see.

Yes, they could use her to bring Dex & Deb together, they could also use her as a pointless new love interest, but it's WAY too late in the game to be doing that and if Dex fell for her it would only prove that he has lost his mind.

She's not a victim like Lumen. Hers is a criminal past, and not like Lila's either.

  5. Hey, i read somewhere on tumblr that Hannah's first appearance will be in episode 7. is that true? well i hope her "multi-episode-arc" will be until the end of the season. I guess if she is coming to comic con with the main cast her role would be kinda important.

    1. How I understood it, she is going to be in season 8 as well. Not sure if that is still true.
