Edward James Olmos Dishes on Dexter 6.09 “Get Gellar”

Via latina.com: Do not read on if you haven't seen episode 6.09 "Get Gellar" of Dexter!

On Sunday night's episode of Showtime's hit serial killer drama Dexter, it was revealed that Edward James Olmos' character Professor Gellar—who viewers thought was this season's big bad—has been dead all along, and merely a product of his "disciple" Travis' (Colin Hanks) imagination.

We caught up with the Oscar-nominated Mexican actor ("Stand and Deliver") to talk about Sunday's jaw-dropping episode, how he feels about Professor Gellar ending up in the cooler, and why the story line was kept secret from the cast and crew.

We were surprised to see you dead in a cooler on Sunday night's episode! How are you feeling?
Very good! I hope everybody understands that I never did anything—I was never there.

So Professor Gellar isn't a bad guy at all?
No. He had nothing to do with anything that happened—that’s the whole idea. Read the full interview after the jump below...

Dexter Season 6 Episode 9 Recap: The Writing Is on the Wall

Dexter - Episode 6.09 "Get Gellar" recap by Richard Rys - NYmag: If there’s one line that best sums up last night’s episode, it’s when Travis tells Dexter, “The writing is on the wall.” He’s describing the bloody note in his bathroom, of course, but he’s also foreshadowing one whopper of an anticlimax, as we wait another hour for what we’ve suspected — some of us later than others — for much of the season. With all the references to Travis’s Dark Passenger, beginning with the opening lines and sprinkled throughout the show, it seemed inevitable that the Prof’s fate would finally be revealed. We also find out whose ass LaGuerta is covering, but perhaps the biggest (only?) surprise was in Louis’s apartment. Or was the surprise actually the apartment itself? Dude is living large! (As the Prof might observe, “Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Earth.”). Before we get to those final scenes, there’s a lot of ground to cover in nearly every story line. Dexter - Episode 6.09 “Get Gellar” - Review

Dexter “Get Gellar” Season 6 Episode 9 Review by DaemonsTV.com: We get right into Dexter “helping” Travis track down Gellar. You might argue that the best way to hunt down Gellar would be for Dex to turn him in and share all his evidence with Miami Metro, but whatever. Speaking of Miami Metro, they’re still plugging along the DDK case from their own angle, which involves a new lead in the form of a blog post from Gellar talking about Dexter being a false prophet. When Quinn doesn’t show up to the briefing, Batista goes looking for him and finds out that he left his gun and cell phone with a stripper he was with last night. In case you were thinking that Quinn’s downward spiral was going to resolve itself anytime soon, think again. Not only is he turning into one of the most unlikable characters on the show, but now he’s bringing Batista down with him. I was not a fan of Batista flashing his gun to Louis last week, but now that he’s rolling around in the grass punching Quinn in front of a mom walking her kid he’s getting more and more frustrating. I’ve always liked Batista, so I’m not sure why they’re turning him into an overprotective crybaby. Read more after the jump below...

Aimee Garcia: "Dexter Fans Will Have Their World Rocked"

New Aimee Garcia interview via theinsider.com: Now that we're past the halfway mark of the season, and pieces of Professor Gellar's religious endgame are slowly falling into place, I caught up with the fabulous Aimee Garcia -- who plays Dexter's nanny and Angel's sister, Jamie -- to find out what's in store for the show and her character. Turns out, there's about to be some seismic shifts across the board that will leave fans gasping for breath!

Insider.com: Jamie has been a very interesting addition to the show, and Dexter's world. What do you think about the way she's become integrated into the show?
Aimee Garcia: I love that Jamie is smart, sassy, fun and cool -- but more than that, I think Harrison has become Dexter's reason for living. He's a father and takes that role very seriously. And Jamie has essentially become Harrison's mother – she bathes him, feeds him, puts him to sleep, spends lots of time with him, so, because of that, Jamie has become important in Dexter's inner-circle. But as we all know, anyone that gets super close to Dexter is always in danger. Read more after the jump (spoilers)...

Dexter Season 6 Episode 8 Recap: Buddy Up

Dexter, Episode 6.08 "Sin of Omission" recap by Richard Rys - NY magThis season has been like one long buddy movie with a rotating cast: Dexter and Brother Sam; Dexter and his dead brother Brian; the Prof and Travis; and last night, the most unlikely team-up yet — Dexter convinces Travis to help him take down the mad professor Gellar. Fans of the religious themes and the Doomsday Killers should be pleased that the third act is kicking into high gear. If you’re bored with Dexter’s soul searching and a decided lack of kill-room action, you might be a little cranky today. But seeing Travis’s sister Lisa wearing a satanic goat mask and riding a multi-headed crocodile should count for something, right?
The episode’s title surfaces in the diner scene where Dexter uses Brother Sam’s bloody Bible to speak Travis’s language (love the gross-out pages stuck together). Quoting James 4:17, Dex reminds Travis that failure to take action against evil is sin (weird current-events confluence — has Dexter been keeping up with the Penn State scandal?). The “sin of omission” theme also surfaces with LaGuerta, who forces Deb to drop the dead call girl investigation as a favor (or, more likely, blackmail) for a mystery man. Speaking of secrets, Deb finally (finally!) reaches her breaking point with Dexter’s emotional distance and mysterious constant disappearing acts. Read more after the jump below...

Dexter - Episode 6.08 “Sin of Omission” - Review

Dexter “Sin of Omission” Season 6 Episode 8 reviews by DaemonsTV.com – After hearing the news earlier this week that Dexter has been renewed for two more seasons by Showtime, “Sin of Omission”, and the rest of the season for that matter, loses a little bit of suspense for me. On a show that has always had a hard time making big moves or changes to its formula, knowing that we have at least two more seasons to fill really takes a lot of the wind out of this season’s sails. I guess this won’t be the season that Deb finds out about Dex, or that another major character will die. I could be totally wrong, and we could have a major revelation by the end of the season and have the next two seasons be completely different, but I highly doubt it.

But I guess that’s neither here nor there as far as the quality of this episode, and “Sin of Omission” was yet another solid episode of this season. We finally see Dexter returning to the Doomsday Killer case, as he seems to have completely forgotten about it over the past few episodes. His first scene in the restoration room with Travis was really cool, as Colin Hanks does a great job as the guy who is being pressured from too many angles. This scene did give us another clue from Dexter that seems to be hinting at Gellar being a figment of Travis’ imagination, as he referred to Gellar as Travis’ dark passenger. I know he had that obligatory line about how Gellar is different because he “walks and talks and breathes”, but that seems like it’s just trying to throw us off the trail.

Showtime President David Nevins: Seasons 7 And 8 Of ‘Dexter’ Will Be “Likely” Show’s Last

Via deadline.com: Minutes after Showtime announced a new two-year deal with Dexter star Michael C. Hall and a two-year pickup for the show, deadline.com spoke with Showtime entertainment president David Nevins about the deal and the future of Dexter, the network’s highest-rated series. Last month, deadline reported about a breakdown in the negotiations between Hall and Showtime over a $4 million gap between the $24 million Hall’s reps were reportedly seeking and the $20 million Showtime was offering for a new 2-year contract. (Hall’s existing one is up at the end of the current Season 6.) Today, Nevins declined to discuss financials but stressed that they didn’t drive the deal-making. “It’s been a pretty simple negotiation, and Michael C. Hall has been incredibly gentlemanly throughout the whole process,” Nevins said. “The biggest question was: what is the trajectory of the show creatively? And after speaking with (executive producers) John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton and Scott Buck, it became pretty clear that there was a very clear 3-year trajectory. Once we established that, this became a very simple negotiation, which went down pretty quickly.” The 3-year trajectory includes the current sixth season and the upcoming Seasons 7 and 8. Does it mean that Dexter will end after eight seasons? “I’m not going to say with absolute certainty that this is the end, but that is the likely scenario, that the series is moving towards a definite end,” Nevins said.

Also key in the negotiation was working out the show’s filming schedule to accommodate Hall and Showtime. Given the success the pairing of Dexter and rookie Homeland has had, the network is looking to keep the 2 series on compatible schedules so they can continue to air together, which has been accomplished. “The pairing of Dexter and Homeland has made for a vety powerful Sunday, and our plan is to likely keep them together,” Nevins said. “Clearly those shows cement our schedule on Sunday for the next several years.” Both Dexter and Homeland have been growing in the ratings for the past five consecutive weeks. “It’s remarkable how Dexter continues to be on a steady upward trajectory in its sixth season,” Nevins said.

IT'S OFFICIAL - DEXTER RENEWED FOR SEASON 7 & SEASON 8! - Press Release

Wow! Read the official press release below!

DEXTER® TAKES A STAB AT TWO MORE SEASONS

SHOWTIME® Renews Its Hit Drama Series For 7th And 8th Seasons

LOS ANGELES, CA — (November 18, 2011) SHOWTIME has ordered two more seasons of its award-winning, top-rated drama series DEXTER, starring Golden Globe® award-winning actor Michael C. Hall, it was announced today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. On the heels of Hall and SHOWTIME closing a new, two season deal for Hall to return to the series, production will begin on season seven in 2012 in Los Angeles. Seasons seven and eight will consist of 12 episodes each.

The Emmy®-nominated DEXTER opened its sixth season in October and continues to earn impressive ratings, most recently delivering its fifth consecutive week of growth. Season-to-date, the series is averaging 5.12 million weekly viewers on all platforms (including On Demand, replays and DVR), making it the highest rated season yet. Season six of DEXTER is executive produced by John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Scott Buck, Manny Coto and Michael C. Hall.

"DEXTER's enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C. Hall,” said Nevins. “The series is bigger than it’s ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape. Together with Michael, the creative team on the show has a very clear sense of where they intend to take the show over the next two seasons and, as a huge fan, I’m excited to watch the story of Dexter Morgan play out.”

Michael C. Hall added, “On behalf of the entire DEXTER family, we relish the invitation to delve ever deeper into Dexter's world."

One of the most acclaimed shows on television, DEXTER stars Hall, who has earned multiple Emmy nominations as well as a SAG award for his role as a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department who moonlights as a serial killer. The show has received multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for best television drama series, as well as a prestigious Peabody Award in 2008, and was twice named one of AFI’s Top Ten television series. The series also stars Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, C.S. Lee, Lauren Vélez, David Zayas, and James Remar.
