Personally I don't have any doubt that D...Joe,

Personally I don't have any doubt that Dexter will reciprocate Debra feelings. In a way he already does, even if he's not really aware of or understand it.

Because when I watched season 6, they really started to imply it through Dexter at first. Not Debra (I'm talking about season 6 only). For example, we pretty much never had a voice over from Dexter about Quinn but then in episode 602 it start.

Quinn and Dexter have a discussion about Debra and Quinn said something like "I don't want her to feel like she has to choose between you and me" (which sounds a bit weird when you think about it for a second because it implies that Quinn does sense some sort of deep bond between Dexter and Debra and view Dexter as a sort of rival for her affection) but the real killer is what Dexter tells us next in a voice over : "Because it is never going to BE you".

Me think one of the reason we didn't really get any voice over about Quinn before is because it would have been too revealing. Dexter jealousy and possessiveness and spiteful opinion of Quinn would have been out in the open so to speak and left no doubt at all about why he despise Quinn so much.

And then you have 607, the Nebraska episode and Brian who is a figment of Dexter imagination and a part of him says : "Debra Debra Debra... What is it with YOU and HER". And Dexter remains silent. That's very telling I thought. Because Dexter is unable to answer but a part of him obviously knows that his relationship with Debra is stretching the boundaries of a brother/sister relationship so much that he can't really define it.

And then the rest of the season dealed with Debra and her feelings and these little tidbits of peculiar reactions from Dexter were kind of drowned, since all the focus was directed at Debra. I always found it very telling that in the interviews at the end of the last season, the writers always talked about Debra's feelings but never quite adressed Dexter's. A bit cagey I thought since they did deliberately put these little suggestions and scenes in the episodes. But if they want to deal with Dexter's feelings this season they had to remain vague at first.

What I hope this season will deal with is Dexter reactions at being "ignored" and "dismissed" by Debra. How will he reacts if for once he's not the one giving the cold shoulder and being distant. If we'll see Debra attempt to keep her distance from Dexter while she deals whith all she has learned about him and how it will affect him. No more light discussions on the couch with beer, no more sister to barge in on him at all hours talking about a millions things. No more Debra to lean on to...

Because that relationship of theirs pretty much ended at the church.

Now it will evolve, give birth to a new monster of a relationship, completely dysfunctional but fascinating to watch and kind of beautiful too...

I kind of hope Dexter will be the one to have an epiphany this year and the one who makes the first move.^^

Anyway all the above are my personal views on things of course. I'm just super excited for this season, going to be amazing looks like.

CainAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6720134522106170985.post-24343994757862849272012-07-13T20:04:16.606-04:002012-07-13T20:04:16.606-04:00that doesn't mean she'll be ok with dexter...that doesn't mean she'll be ok with dexter offing people for personal pleasure. she killed to save a life. personally, i think she'll come to accept the truth, not condone his actions, and still want to be with him. but not right away, it will take time.Patrick Batemannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6720134522106170985.post-47814395343334000472012-07-13T20:00:24.809-04:002012-07-13T20:00:24.809-04:00But it wasn't theoretical. But it STILL is in the story you can't just dismiss the implications and what that relationship suggest about Debra and Dexter both. You can't just choose and pick piece of the story you have to look it as a whole.

Lundy was a blend of Harry and Dexter. It was made obvious in season 2 and 4. Debra and Dexter relationship was peculiar from the get go. Season 1 and 2 especially.

I don't know how old you are or how long you've watched the show. Please believe me when I say I'm not trying to be condescending but you've got to broaden your perspective a bit. Try to be more open.

CainAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6720134522106170985.post-2253514082586511142012-07-13T19:09:28.235-04:002012-07-13T19:09:28.235-04:006:33

Like, oh, Deb's dinner with her boyfriend in Season 2, or Lundy talking to Dexter about being a hunter in Season 4. Lundy is the person that Dexter might have been if he was not broken. The only similarity's between Lundy and Harry is their age. Harry was a womanizer and a tough guy cup, he was not a nerdy introspective FBI agent with a taste for higher culture.

Anyway, I could go on for hours, but it would all be wasted. As Joe says, you are adding nothing to the conversation aside from being condescending and doing the name calling thing - essentially acting the part of a sneering teenager who thinks they know so much more than grown ups.

If the best argument you have, is saying my comments are crazy, then you got nothing. Pack it in kid and go play somewhere else.

ZAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6720134522106170985.post-76566831727722181402012-07-13T18:33:56.332-04:002012-07-13T18:33:56.332-04:00"and falls madly in love with your biological..."and falls madly in love with your biological brother who is ALSO a psycho serial killer, as well as the man that is a 60 year old good guy version of yourself"

The writers clearly added the Deb/Brian stuff in for drama. Where are you even getting this Lundy stuff from? Deb chose Lundy cause he was like a father figure who actually payed attention to her, to assume anything else is just over-analyzing things. Deb talking about her sex life with Dexter doesn't mean anything. If they ever looked at each other with dreamy eyes it was because their chemistry was bleeding onscreen. You are starting to sound like a crazy/wishful shipper. I think I saw one of your other crazy comments where you said that the show would end with Deb having Dex's baby or something...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6720134522106170985.post-24464533162311585212012-07-13T18:16:02.673-04:002012-07-13T18:16:02.673-04:00LOL Joe,
Everyone back in the pool until you pass...LOL Joe,

Everyone back in the pool until you pass psyche 101 !!!

Maybe, just maybe, the writers kept the thing in subtext BECAUSE they wanted some viewers to be surprised and then go "Oh yea, it all makes sense." And true, it did work with some people and they were surprised and then hit with revelation.

But what they probably should have accounted for is the ego factor of some fans. Everyone has to be a big shot, and nothing worse than being a big shot and missing something basic... so rather than just admit they had a blind spot, they have to salvage their pride and spew constant bullshit to save face.

It doesn't help that the producers focused so much on Rita's unhappiness with Dexter in Season 4, and so much on Lumen in Season 5 - that the Deb/Dex stuff was totally neglected. So for the viewers that REALLY got into Dexter in S4 (at least half of them it seems), that relationship would be the most lasting impression of Deb/Dex they would have, and the conversation in the car is about the only bit of subtext there was in S4.

It is true that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but for the most part - guitars, cigars, snakes, and long knives - are phallic symbols, and when your foster sister looks dreamily into your eyes, discusses the sex noises she makes, and wants to know what sex noises your girlfriend makes, and falls madly in love with your biological brother who is ALSO a psycho serial killer, as well as the man that is a 60 year old good guy version of yourself - you don't have to "read into" jack shit.

I'd have an appropriate Deb quote here, but - I am playing nice.

ZAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6720134522106170985.post-71610159357591789992012-07-13T18:07:11.749-04:002012-07-13T18:07:11.749-04:00Oh knock it off w/the condescension. That hits you to the core. In the moment that it was stated and how she said it. She also felt it was so deep she was ready to gamble on telling him - despite getting warned about his reaction. It would change their relationship forever. Doesn't dissolve.
