The Latest Sneak Peek Contains Footage From the First 2 Episodes of Season 7

The 'Dexter Season 7 Sneak Peek' which was released by Showtime few days ago redefines the term "teaser trailer". In less than 3 seconds it revealed more that 40 scenes from the new season. The majority of the footage of the sneak peek are from episodes 7.01 "Are You...?" and 7.02 "The Shadow Knows".

  1. That means that Deb is serving him food at her house in the first to episodes, which means that either she accepted him being a serial killer right away (I'd like that, because it makes it more likely they will kill someone together) or he told her something like "Travis was my first kill" and she has no problems with that.

Together with the picture of Deb sleeping on the couch that means that Dex stays at Deb's house overnight.
    Someone any idea why?

    1. Or Deb fell asleep on the couch for some other reason. I know I've slept on the couch, even if there was nobody else in the house. Maybe she fell asleep waiting for either Dexter or someone else to come over?

    2. I wanted to say sex but it's probably too soon. Maybe he's devastated (or faking it) after what happened and Deb convinced him to stay with her. God I don't know, can't fucking wait!

  2. He has that photo of him and Deb on his desk :)

I don't really understand why there is not a single picture of Rita in the house.

    1. It's pretty weird. I also noticed that after episode 6.01 the never mentioned the name Rita except from the monologue of Dexter in 6.07. Maybe it's because the relationship between Showtime and Julie is not the best after Rita's death.

    2. Or of Astor and Cody. One would think that at least a few of those pictures from the House would have made it to the apartment. At least so Harrison knows his mother, brother, and sister.

    3. Have you seen every nook and cranny of Dexter's apartments? And even if he doesn't have any pictures of Rita out in the open, why would he? He got her killed and he's moved on. And it is Dexter we're talking about.

I'm sure he has pictures lying around for Harrison when he get's older.

    4. Remember that scene when Travis walks trough Dex' apartment? Lots of pictures of Harrison, but not a single one of Rita, Astor or Cody.
And yes, during season 6 you get to see basically the entire apartment.

    6. Funny. But seriously, if Dex had any pictures of Rita in his apartment (and I'm not talking about a photo album) we would have seen them by now.

    7. Ithey don't have pictures out in plain sight for the audience to see because 1) the Network needs said actors image approval 2) they would have to pay them . Who knows how much that would be . But why would the network pay for stuff like that when they can just mention it in a line of dialogue and save the money ?

  3. pretend? of course not, cause sara coleton said he really will be sad, new feelings etc

  4. rita not appeared or the recap at the beginning of the season, even though he mentioned it, nor dead in her bath, something to do with the image of the actress,,, so be it

    1. There are basically to parts of the Dexter series: The one with Rita and the one without Rita. And those to parts doesn't seem to have to much to do with each other.

    2. totally agree,,and if dexter tell about rita for harrison, this point is not in evidence but if he would dont say nothing about. of course dexter would show it ,,," i dont talk about rita for my son because,,,,,,,"( dont know ..)
totally agree, is just something for the show

  5. If they did show pictures of Rita, Julie Benz would probably have to be credited and paid. That's probably why there are no pictures of her up in the apartment. Anyway, Dexter is more of a photo album kind of guy. I'm sure Dexter would show Harrison who his mother is.

      agree with you

    2. I doubt Showtime would have to pay for a photo. And if they did, they can afford it. But in story telling terms, they needed to focus on the pics that would immediately make sense to Travis in last season's finale. If they showed all the kids, it would take that much longer for Travis to figure out the layout of Dexter's life. And emotionally, Rita is a distraction for the viewers, so they would probably not go down that path unless they needed to.

      Delete
    3. Why would Showtime have to pay Julie Benz?

Arnold Schwarzenegger said he didn't want to take part in the 4th Terminator movie. So they shot the movie without him, used someone else to play the T-800 and then photoshoped his face on that actors face using footage from the other movies.
It would have been the same here. Showtime could have used the family photos from Dexter's house without Julie Benz' consent because she gave that consent when those photos were shot for season 4.

Btw, I think Harrison knows about his mom / will find out about his mom without Dex: The first thing Astor told him in 5x09 was "Your mom is dead" and we know that Astor and Cody spent the summer holidays with Dexter and there is no reason why they shouldn't visit him again. So even if Harrison doesn't realize right now that his mom is dead, Astor will make sure he knows.

    4. Union rules require you to pay for the use of an actor's image. So yes, if they use pictures of Julie Benz in subsequent episodes of Dexter after Rita's death, she must be paid for them. Schwarzenegger is getting paid for T4 as well, too.

    1. Yea this is kinda silly.

      It's really basic stuff:

Dexter's condo has always been his sanctum. Debra's pictures are up everywhere in Dexter's condo - always have been, including several pictures of Debra as a little girl. He has the picture of Harry, and of Harrison, and the family picture of Harry/Doris/Deb and him - but the majority of Dexter's pictures are centered around Deb. That's not changed since season 1.

Rita's pictures were always up in Rita's house. Dexter no longer lives there, hence, her pictures aren't up.

Pretty easy to tell who his life is focused around. He knew Rita for about 4 years. He has known Deb all his life.

  7. Dexter finds the prosthesis: "What the fuck?"

I wonder if he'll open the box and break the fourth wall again by looking directly into the camera. I hope so. Dexter hasn't looked at us since seaosn 4, I believe. He seemed to do that in the first season more than any of the others. Let me see: He looked into the camera at the end of "Dexter," "Crocodile" (while submerged in his bathtub), "Let's Give the Boy a Hand," and "Circle of Friends." I think that's all of them in season 1.

    1. Nice catch. He's been too busy catching up with everything around him since then. He used to do that when he felt he was on top of things. I wonder if the team has noticed this.

  8. Don't forget that Dexter is a sociopath. A "normal" person would have the photos of Rita, Astor and Cody around the apartment because they would have had a real emotional attachment to them and they'd miss them. But for Dexter this emotional attachment doesn't exist. Putting up pictures of them isn't something he'd decide for or against because it would never cross his mind in the first place. If it was ever pointed out to him, he'd be smart enough to realize putting them up is the "right" choice. The fact he hasn't had the thought further emphasises his sociopathic qualities and emotional disconnect from those he should be deeply attached to. As well, consider how quickly he was ready to start a relationship with Lumen. He clearly had no real emotional attachment to her or her kids. He's incapable of forming this bond.

    1. He doesn't have any emotional connection to anybody by the beginning of the first season. But that changes over the time. In 5x01 he even cryes because of Rita's death. ("I guess killing a stranger in the men's room was my way to make through the anger stage.")
He keeps his mom's picture, remember?

Just what show are you watching?

First of all, he's supposed to be a psychopath, not a sociopath and even says to Harry at one point "psychopath's like me".

2nd - Dexter lies to himself and the audience all the time. He is way more emotional than he wants to admit.

That's one of the "inside jokes" of the show that apparently slips by too many audience members. =P

    3. these terms are interchangeable and there are references in the show to both sociopathy and psychopathy. there's the 'socio' batista thing if we want to be nit-picking weirdos and there are others too. it doesn't really matter, though. he has certain tendencies, one cannot deny that, if you chop up people and feel no remorse the tendencies are there. even if he can supposedly feel too.

      Delete
    4. and he doesn't cry when rita dies, he kills a man and lets a devastating howl. but still, no tears.

    5. no mention of rita, miguel, astor, cody, or anyone else he supposedly felt for in the episodes that followed their death. and in rita's case, they used the boring lumen storyline to redeem the character or whatever but she posed as a sexual interest as well. so...there you have it. the only two and i say only two people he's clearly felt something for, not dictionary definition, but dexter definition of feeling, are brian and debra. and mostly debra, that's fairly obvious. i dont know if he's "fond" of her or loves her or cares for her, or whatever but there's obviously stuff there. i can even see him reciprocating the sexual feelings for some reason.

    6. oh and for the lad that was here the other day trying to correct me, DEBORAH. i like the books spelling better.

    7. brian, debra and harrison, forgot the brat! jk

      Delete
    8. he's cried cried for the brat when he thought he was going to die in the hands of the skinner and never see it again and he almost burst in tears when he killed his brother as well. those, his connection with his dead mother and foster father and some pretty strong moments he's shared with debra are by far his most genuinely human moments. i won't even take into consideration the lumen debacle because im trying to let it go. completely. and let's not forget that rita dying was a direct result of dexter's actions and not entirely big bad trinity's doing. dexter's priority was killing and satisfying his urge and that's what got the dumb naive blonde killed. i'm thankful for that. and let's not forget that if lila had not been exposed to dexter's contagious darkness might never have gone full blown psycho and miguel might never have explored that side of him to that extent where he found a way to express his psychopathic tendencies. dexter, the whole show, is a catch. you've got the naive people cheering and praising him for getting rid of the baddies, not realising that dexter is most probably sicker than all his victims up until now. that;s what makes him so interesting. the whole "ethical" aspect, the dilemmas, the exploration, the ambiguity. food for thought.

    11. 5:40 AM: AFAIK, 'socio' means 'partner' or 'buddy' or something like that in Spanish.

Anyway, terms like 'sociopath' and 'psychopath' are rarely used in modern psychiatry. Science marches on, as our knowledge deepens, the old terms make no sense anymore, and 'vague' is the most flattering adjective you can use when talking about them.

The "psychopath's like me" thing is what Dexter said when he was young, and even in adulthood he is no psychiatry major, so I don't think he qualifies as someone particularly qualified to diagnose himself.

    14. 3:34 i knew this would happen. i know what socio means, but it's a wordplay in this case. he means friend not knowing who dexter is but it is also short for sociopath. that's why the writers chose that word. we, as viewers, get the joke.

agree but many things michael c hall and sara coleton and dexter said, about feelins etc
and i not fool and sweet,,i dont care about dexter kill this mens
and is not because i think he is a hero but because

is something more like: "these guys were caught by a crazy, cool, deserve, damn it," I will not get "there is a human being"
but I think he kills for a heroism not by compulsion, but does not mean that the show also focuses not that he loves these people that you mentioned, harrison, debra ....

  10. I know he kills to satisfy a need for it really, really well because I applaud people who kill deserve to die, do not care about his motives
Dexter is now the production you want, is not real person or psycho
it can kill by his need to kill and to love people at a time,,,
worth reading interviews, whoever produces the show knows what he is trying to pass
MCH sentence: "WHAT MAKES MORE DARK THE SHOW IS THAT HE HAS A compulsion to KILL, BUT GENUINE LOVE FOR YOUR CHILD"

  12. sorry, getting what patrick said, but he kills by compulsion, but even so, I meant that "these guys were caught by a crazy, cool, deserve"
I think anyone thinks he does for heroism,
He respects and idolizes the code, but never said it was for heroism, so I disagree with the sentiments because the producer, actor ep own character speaks and demonstrates

  13. There's a lot of great discussion going on here. Let me add my two cents: I agree that just because Dexter is a killer doesn't mean he is qualified to give an accurate self-diagnosis. In season 5, Dexter took Harrison to a child psychologist. That right there shows his inability to diagnose mental issues and it also shows he has concern for Harrison's development. Dexter cares about Harrison enough that he wants him to grow up to be everything that Dexter pretends to be. Dexter wants him to be healthy and successful.

I don't know about everyone else, but I see Harrison growing up to become a homicide detective to continue the real Morgan legacy. Being a murderer is no legacy at all and Dexter would agree. There's no doubt in my mind about that.

Anyway, it seems to me that a young Dexter wasn't a sociopath, but emotionally withdrawn because of a post traumatic stress disorder. I think it was Harry projecting those psychotic tendencies onto Dexter by telling him repeatedly that he was incapable of feeling remorse. Over time, I think young Dexter started to believe Harry and so he was only living up to those low expectations. Dexter was already at risk, but the insistence of Harry to deal with the problem himself is what kept Dexter from moving on from the murder of his mother. I think if Harry got Dexter the help he needed as a child, then, as an adult, he would have been like any of us. The experience of witnessing his mother's death shut him down emotionally, and since Harry assumed the worst, Dexter's emotions never matured along with him. I think, emotionally, that Dexter is still that three year old boy locked away in the darkness of the shipping container, still covered in his mother's blood.

Until recently, Dexter has felt trapped. I think he is finally starting to see the light, so to speak, but that "light" isn't directing him to stop killing. The light, or truth he has found is to accept that Harry made some bad decisions in raising him, but he has to just deal with that the best he can and live with it. Sometimes people can change, but Dexter thinks that it's hopeless to even try. Dexter has to play the hand he was dealt in life. That's all there is to it.

What I'm getting at is that the emotions have always been within Dexter, he was just told that he wasn't capable of feeling them. So, yes, I believe he cared a great deal about Rita and he still cares for Astor, Cody, Harrison and Debra. Dexter gives them and shows them as much love and affection as he can, which is what all of us try to do. Dexter's emotions were never allowed to develop beyond a certain point, but I think he is now starting to recognize that he does care for the people in his life. Going back as far as season two, these revelations scare the hell out of him because he realizes that he doesn't understand himself as well as he thought he did. That is a very human phenomenon...how well do we know ourselves, let alone each other? I would go as far as calling self-discovery the overall theme of the show, which is why we can relate so easily with it.

He said he loved Rita in 5x01. 5x02 was unhappy with the children leaving.
