Julia Stiles Cast as Lead in NBC's Drama Pilot Midnight Sun

Via TVLine.com: Former Dexter star Julia Stiles is set to continue her run in gritty crime dramas with a starring role in the NBC pilot Midnight Sun. The thriller which is being adapted from the Israeli format by FlashForward‘s Lisa Zwerling — revolves around an investigation into mysterious disappearances within a group living on a cult-like commune in Alaska. As first reported by Deadline, Stiles will play Leah Kafka, an FBI cult specialist leading the investigation that ultimately uncovers a larger conspiracy.
The Walking Dead‘s Emma Bell has also joined the cast, playing the daughter of Lost alum Titus Welliver’s manipulative cult leader. Michael Raymond-James (Terriers) co-stars as well as an Alaskan police officer assisting Kafka with the case. This marks Stiles’ first series regular gig. That makes Julia's return on 'Dexter' even harder for the next two seasons of the show.

  1. As far as this doesn't prevent her returning to Dexter it's great news.

  2. What does this news have to do with Dexter!? She left the show a long time ago.

    1. Julia Stiles was a big part of Dexter in season 5, so it has to do with the show.

  3. No offense to Julia, but I'd rather she not come back to the show...Lumen was a poorly conceived character imo. I wish her all the best on Midnight Sun, though!

    1. 5:15 I share your sentiments.

I really Julia Stiles, she's beautiful and she's a decent actress. I just thought the Lumen character was a mistake. They were trying to make her into a bridge but it didn't work and led to more confusion. The point of Lumen was to show that Debra was "ready" for the next step, and that Dexter is better with someone in his life, but I think Deb was already there at the end of Season 4. and that we had already established that Dexter was a social creature capable of love in Season 4 as well, even craving it and needing it. (by Dexter's own words) "Harry did not raise a loner..."

As a result of not trusting in the work they had already done the writers essentially regressed the characters or did not move them forward in season 5, which put them in the situation of having a hell of a lot of heavy lifting in season 6 to get us to where we are.

    2. Yep, I thought S5 would be more of a bonding season between Dexter, Deb and Harrison, but they both kind of decided to play house with people who they weren't really attracted to instead of actually building on the familial bond of the Morgan clan. It was a waste of a season, in my opinion.

  4. I disagree.
It might have been a "bridge-season" but that's not necessarily a bad thing. They needed to pick up the pieces from what happened in S4 and that's exactly what they did.

Dex facing a crisis after Rita's death, developing true feelings for Harrison AND Lumen, all of that makes sense and needed to happen in order for him to become whole again. Deb needed to be secondary if you ask me.

The love story between Dexter and Lumen was one of the if not THE most romantic one in any TV series imo.

I hope she returns in a future season.
