2012 Golden Globe Nominations - Dexter Snubbed

Bad news Dexter fans. Nominations were announced on Thursday morning for the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards. Unfortunately Dexter didn't get any nomination...

  1. I really don't understand what people think is a quality show. You have people watching these horrible so called "reality" shows that are just that, horrible. Yet Dexter doesn't get the recognition it so deserves, that really is a huge shame.

  4. This shouldn't be too surprising. The GG loves giving some recognition to new shows and a lot of new shows and its actors got nominated. Dexter is in its sixth season and, let's be honest, it's not its best season, so of course it wasn't going to get recognition.

  5. I agree. A weaker season probably deprived MCH of a Best Actor nom. Because, barring a few moments in Eps 8 & 9, he has been outstanding as usual. He deserves a better season, a better show. Hope the writers give him that in the last 24 episodes of Dexter's existence. Ofcourse, Jennifer was snubbed as usual. Incomprehensible! But the quality of this season has done her no favors at all.

  6. The writing this season was awful, and sometimes MCH (as opposed to his character) seemed a bit off his game. However Jennifer Carpenter and Mos both deserve kudos for some great work this season.

  7. Obviously its your perspective that this is "not its best season", "A weaker season", and "The writing this season was awful". But thats not my point here... Jennifer Carpenters snub has nothing to do with the writing or this season! The Killing received alot of backlash for its season finale, slow-pace, and some non-sense episodes from the press and critics (oh, and fans, well used to be fans). BUT Mireille Enos was still nominated! Now dont get me wrong, she was great. No JC, MCH, Mos (cant remember his new name, sorry) and I would even say Desmond H (yes I went there) was snubbed b/c the Hollywood Foreign Press Ass. are a bunch of monkeys who dont know what is going on. So, DONT blame this season or the writers of DEXTER, its all the HFPA who have no idea what they are watching.

  8. So considering how bad season 5 was. And how bad season 3 was. I don't get the flaming of boards about season 6 being 'awful'. I am impressed its even started to grab a hold of the original plot of Dexter. It seemed Rita's story just brought too much fluff to ever get it back onto a dark path again. Which honestly people fall for. It was to make Dexter more relatable to a mass audience. Season 1, 2 and 4 (all Trinity) had that disturbing awesomeness that only Dexter can bring to the small screen.

I'm with the other poster. What the hell is that people want from this show. Everyone gripes and bitches about something entirely different. Yet they are still on all these sites. You've been spoiled by Dexter.

I finally feel like we are getting away from this pity fest of season 5 and back into a darker story again.

My big gripe with Season 6? The showrunners really have to start taking their casting of the Big Bad seriously. Ice Truck, Lila, and Trinity proved that an actor who can play psychologically fucked up -- is a real treat on Dexter. Their wacky writing only really succeeds when they have a strong actor. MCH talent for playing 'fucked up' is proof of Dexters success when paired with a great actor. Olmos and Hanks tanked the creepiness this biblical story could have had. They didn't have chemistry together. And they were off note all the time. They are sinister, but just in the "I'm absolutely insane" way. The religion story could have gone much deeper with a stronger set of actors playing the villains.

  9. Hey, Dexter is in much the same boat as Battlestar Galactica was.

For years it was the best show on television, but it was "Sci-Fi" and it took chances that other shows did not. It never played "safe".

Whereas "The Wire" and "Sopranos" were familiar shows with settings that didn't require you to think very much, or even notice that many characters were so cliche that they bordered on being cartoons! How can anyone look at Steve Van Zandt's "Silvio" from Sopranos and not realize he is a mobster from a Dick Tracy comic strip!!! Yet this is "reality" only because of the premise of the show is something familiar to our world.

Like BSG, Dexter is a bit too "unreal" for the normal Hollywood crowd to wrap their noodle around, so they actors and writers are always facing an uphill battle when it comes to awards.

It's nothing short of a miracle that they even get nominated!

I agree. The GG and SAG are pretty tricky when it comes to supporting actors. The GG supporting actor categories not only cover drama series, but also comedy AND mini-series actors. All the supporting actors from different genres are lumped in one category while lead actors get their own separate categories. The SAG awards have no supporting categories either, only "Outstanding Female Actress/Actor."

That said I'm not too surprised JC wasn't nominated. She has been amazing this season, but she was up against varied competition and "big name" actresses (and awards shows LOVE that). It would have been awesome to see her nominated, though.

  11. maybe i can agree that season 6 is not so good as the first and the fourth one (even though personally i rate it as equal with the fourth). But MCH, Carpenter, even the whole cast deserved to be nominated, because even in "bad" seasons, they 're always some levels higher than others, who have been nominated. Because outstanding actors like them, can make the difference, no matter how many "holes" the script has.

  14. whats up with you people, ever since season 4 all everyone has to say is its not as good anymore, first of all season 5 and 6 were awesome, season 6 was by far one of the best seasons of dexter, the kills were really creative, more creative then anything in season 4 and the whole atmosphere of the season was a lot more creepy then any other season. second of all michaels c halls acting in this season was amazing just like every other season!!!

I ♥ Dexter and to see that it was not nominated is a BIG SHAME. Dexter is what keeps me going all week. I always look forward to my escape. Thumbs down to the GG.

I ♥ you Michael C Hall you are the greatest xoxoxo

  16. Season 5 was by far one of the best yet. Definitely made up for all the "fluff" that Rita's character injected into the story. Golden Globes are a joke. The fact that Dexter refuses to be mainstream, is what makes it such a great show but subsequently keeps the industry snobs from giving it the recognition it deserves. From one die-hard fan to the next all we can do is keep spreading the word and the love. I look forward to (hopefully) many more seasons!
